Anyway Madrid lost. Solari won’t last another month. I don’t think it’s the managers fault. The squad is a bit shocking especially in the attacking third for a big team. Benzema hasn’t done anything for a few years now. Bale is always injured and when he plays is terrible. Hazard alone isn’t going to change that.
Rooney has had a booze and cigs problem since he was 16. I think he didn't realise his full potential, in a similar way to Paul Gascoine. I'd say he'll probably turn out like Gazza too.
I agree about his potential.
I know he was England’s and Man Utds top scorer.
But he was always a side kick to Ronaldo and then later on Van Persie. Even when we won it in 10/11, Berbatov was the top goal scorer.
When I first watched him as a teenager, I always felt he would in his mid twenties at least be in contention for ballon d’or. But in reality he was never in the top 10 let alone contention.
He was better than Ronaldo at one stage. But Ronaldo just had that hunger to get better, which something Rooney lacked.
He’s had a better career than Gascoine. Maybe it’s me being harsh, but I always expected more. Just watching him at Euro 2004 he was unbelievable as a teenager.
Yeah, I agree. When he scored that goal against Arsenal for Everton as a 16(?) year old, he looked like he was going to be one of the very best. No one had heard of Messi at that point (mostly), but it was probably those two at the top of their age groups. Messi is 2 years younger (31). Despite all of Rooney's achievements and medals, he's had nowhere near the career that Messi's had. You're right, he never had the desire...and I also think Ferguson coached his free will out of him, tried to make him more of a team player, particularly when Ferguson tried to make Utd more of a defensive unit than a free, attacking one (to try and beat Barcelona in the European Cups).
I mean he good, like really brilliant, but he could've been one of the best, if he'd been more dedicated and disciplined. His career was over when he was 30...he's missed out on 5 or 6 years there. Maybe he burnt out...but was that because he was playing professionally in the Premier League at 16, or because he was a boozer and smoker who liked his junk food? Ryan Giggs played 400 (
) games more than Rooney, and was in the first team at a similar age, and he played until he was nearly 40.
Sadly, I feel, his peak was the 2004 Euro's, in terms of form/ability, rather than medals.
