I don't see what's so difficult either.
The 2022 world cup is going to strawberry float the season up more than this is.

All this would never have happened if Liverpool hadn't tried to win the league. But the world has to act to prevent the unthinkable, come what may.

Yeah, if need be the next season can move to taking place in the calendar year, it just might mean the Euros and Club World Club get cancelled.

Surely the Premier league rules have something which accommodates situations such as war, natural disaster etc. And if not, why the strawberry float not?

Because it’s not exactly life and death when all’s said and done, is it? If they need to suspend the league or cancel the season then so be it, but a compromise will be reached before that ever becomes necessary.

Jan Vertonghen's family robbed at knifepoint while Spurs were in Leipzig

Player’s wife and two young children were at home in London
Police are investigating but have made no arrests

All depends on "when" football resumes but the only fair way to go about this in my opinion is;

1. Postpone Euros till next year
2. Cancel the season and give Liverpool the title :(
3. From August, have some sort of 2 legged playoff mechanism to decide Champions League, Europa League places as well as relegation. Give the 2nd leg advantage to those currently higher in the table.
4. Start season in September with no League Cup so can finish on time next year.

This way, at least the positions will be decided on the pitch rather than in the boardroom.

If you just relegated and promoted teams on existing positions (once average points where awarded to even out games played). Is there some way all clubs and FA could band together and offer extra financial stimulus for those relegated, to make up for it?

It’s all so complicated that it makes sense that their thinking is to finish the season if it’s at all possible, even if it means delaying the start of next.

TBH Liverpool are a small worry. Teams affected by relegation and promotion are much more important.

I thought 5000 people had died already? And the reason they've stopped the league is because more are likely to? I'm not comparing this to a war but surely they have a contingency plan in the rules for season terminations? What about terrorism threats?

Absolutely idiotic if they haven't got some clause that states the possible decisions that could be made.

It's not going to be an easy task to reschedule the final 9 or 10 games before next season. The league definitely won't be starting again in April, more like May /June. Loads of other events will possibly have to shift too, to get this finished in the summer.

Lots of things out of the Premier leagues control now, even if they wanted to restart it in the summer.

One problem with finishing "as is" is that Arsenal, Man City, Sheffield United and Villa all have a game in hand. For City it really makes no difference, and all that's really at stake for us is St Totteringham's Day. However, another win for Sheffield United would put them into Europe (maybe even the CL), and a win for Villa would lift them out of the relegation zone. I think whatever happens there's going to be an element of unfairness, but that tin pot Sheffield United v Aston Villa game in hand is now a multi-million pound playoff

Clearly I meant that football isn't life and death, not Coronavirus.

This is a unique event that has never happened before in a way that affects league football, it's fairly understandable that there isn't a plan in place to deal with it.

BBC News wrote:Euro 2020 has been postponed by one year until 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic, says the Norwegian FA.

Uefa, European football's governing body, has been holding an emergency video conference involving major stakeholders on Tuesday.

The Norwegian FA says it was decided that the tournament will now take place from 11 June to 11 July next year.

BBC Sport understands the decision will be signed off by Uefa later on Tuesday.

The tournament was due to take place from 12 June-12 July this year at 12 venues across Europe.

The postponement provides a chance for European leagues that have been suspended to now be completed.

Uefa's Nations League and the European Under-21 Championships are also scheduled to take place next summer.

The 2021 Uefa Women's European Championship is set to take place in England and begins on 7 July, four days before the proposed men's final.

There's going to be absolutely no time to prep for the last nine games of the season, and the players will have had two months off minimum. It'll be a sight to behold in its way

Haha, i see what you mean now.

Well of course they wont have a specific clause in there for corona virus outbreaks. But it's strawberry floatin idiotic to not have any clause in there about suspension/postponement/cancellation/voiding of the league for ANY reason. I'd imagine the clause will basically involve the 20 clubs and other board members voting on the final decision to postpone or cancel or have the final standings as they are now (with an adjustment for teams who've played less games). It's strange that no one has mentioned anything about this in the media, it seems.

Presumably they must have thought anything serious enough to cancel the whole season ie a pandemic outbreak or World War would mean there were far more important issues to worry about than this.

Get the kite, Beavis.
