Yeah giving it to Messi is plain bullshit at this point.

It's hugely difficult and largely pointless to try direct comparison between leagues, but I'm going to do it anyway - Messi scores gooseberry fool loads of goals in a league that, on average, is less competitive than the PL. Scoring lots of goals in La Liga is not as impressive as being an essentially flawless defender in the PL.

You dont think the best team in Europe can prevent a loss against a relative minnow?

There's no doubt we *can*, but I'm not confident we will. I know Liverpool always turn it on in the CL when we need it: Napoli at Anfield, Munich away, Barca at home, but we lost all three away group games last year and Salzburg tore us to shreds at times in their 4-3 defeat.
Salzburg have scored two goals in every match this season, right? And with our front three not quite in top form at the moment, and Fab and Matip injured (though Lovren's been great this season, in fairness), in that hostile environment... Ooof, I'm really worried.

Looking forward to watching some Prime football over the next few nights. :toot:

Anyone know who Amazon have got as their team for this in terms of pundits and commentators?

The action will be hosted by Gabby Logan, Eilidh Barbour and Jim Rosenthal, with punditry from the likes of Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer, Peter Crouch, Roberto Martinez, Lee Dixon, Harry Redknapp, Jermaine Jenas, Alex Scott, Peter Schmeichel and Michael Owen.

The matches themselves will be commentated on by Clive Tyldesley, Jon Champion, Connor McNamara, Guy Mowbray and Ian Darke with analysis from Andy Townsend, Ally McCoist, Glenn Hoddle, Sue Smith and Kevin Kilbane.

Andy Townsend :dread:

Sounds decent enough to be fair, should be a good watch.

Just turned on Crystal Palace and Bournemouth on Amazon Prime. Picture quality is excellent (Man City game later is the one in 4K). Motion has a very slight judder though.

Let’s see if Amazon can pull this off to the same level as Sky...

Also getting slight judder. Mine also keeps freezing every now and again, but could be my internet. I don't really get that happening with BT Sport though.

I'm with the majority in thinking Van Dijk's virtually flawless season should've got him the award but he got beat by the greatest player of all time. I'm sure Virgil wouldn't swap his European Cup winners medal for it.

Anyway, the real shocker in the awards was Ronaldo placing higher than Mane.

I agree that Messi is a victim of his own success. Whilst I don't think the award should be so heavily based on goals/assists, if any other player had the same record as Messi from last season there wouldn't be a debate on whether they deserved it or not, but it's not seen as anything special from Messi.

Impressed with the Amazon app here - great quality picture, live stats, access to highlights on demand, ability to switch audio to just the stadium noise etc. Good stuff.

I don’t know what it’s like on mobile, but on the TV I think there’s mild motion judder on the football because they’re running it at 25fps, which is also what Now TV is at unless you pay extra for the recent 1080p/50fps upgrade.

Picture itself is excellent though, and no buffering (touch wood).

Good goal but Grealish > Jesus.

I called off his players' names as they came marching up the steps behind him....All nice guys. They'll finish last. Nice guys. Finish last.

Quality of the Prime coverage is really pretty good on tv. I’m not sure if it’s the placement of the mic but this crowd is right at City’s throats, very spicy stuff coming through the tv.

Jesus goal was ridiculous.

Time for adventure

Harry Ellis wrote:It's really easy to reel off all of Messi's goalscoring and assist stats, I saw an infographic earlier today and impressive though it was, I'd still give it to VVD. A defender isn't going to match Messi's stats because their job is to prevent goals at the other end. Clean sheets is too reliant on teammates, it's harder to measure how influential VVD has been this year but it is apparent for all to see.

Weve had him for just short of 2 years now, and the difference he made was huge and instant. Although we did drop Migs at the same time.

Yeah, true. We are stuttering a touch - not scoring many and when we do it's last gasp stuff, and also we've conceded in virtually every game this season (and about 12 on the trot). EDIT: 15 on the trot!
However, we're a team that get things done. So i think we'll grind out a draw.

Winning with 10 men :datass:

Bournemouth were terrible, like probably be termed as worse team at Selhurst....
