Not looking to single out Spurs here, as I can imagine Arsenal and the rest of the Premier League may well follow suit, but this is disgusting behaviour if the playing staff aren't taking even a slight pay cut as well.

Well you wouldn’t be singling them out as Newcastle had already announced plans to do the same before spurs.

The premier league are meeting with the PFA today or tomorrow, I can’t remember which to discuss standard cuts to their salaries.

Oh well thats okay then...

Also imagine how much of a legend a player could become at a club by paying the wages of especially the low paying non playing Members of staff. The fans would love you forever if you did that for a couple of months.

It seems such an obvious thing for them to do. It costs them a measly amount of cash (from their POV) and gives them the best PR they could ever hope for.

I’m very surprised it hasn’t happened yet. Especially from players who have been around for a long time and earn’t a lot.

I’m confident Poch would have asked the tea lady to move into his house already if he was there

I'm more surprised clubs haven't cut the players wages to pay none playing staff. Really goes to show the greed in players and clubs.

It's coming very soon. Just too slowly.

The average premier league player earns over £50k per week. That clubs are even thinking of cutting off others to spare the players is a disgrace.

Agree. How any footballer could allow this to happen is a disgrace.

I'm sure something will happen over the coming days

If a player earns more than £2.5k/week they should be furloughed to 80% pay (but not to below £2.5k), and that money goes to non-playing staff. Any excess left over should go to a charitable pot to help lower league clubs whose own furloughing may not cover all staff.

So it appears the clubs are afraid that if they try to cut the players salaries then they may be in breach of contract and the players could leave for free. Meeting arranged with PFL on Friday to attempt to come to an agreed compromise.

I think the public reaction to any player doing this would be pretty devastating.
This is a global issue and any player who tries to use measures designed to help the game survive will become massively unpopular. It certainly won't be a positive for their career.

I may have given footballers a bit more credit than they deserve after reading the Mail article.

I really hope this issue gets widespread public attention.
I don't know how anyone can justify the unreal wages of premiership players at a time when they aren't even playing and large chunks of the rest of society who can only dream of earning a fraction of what they do are being furloughed or made redundant.
It's a rather sad state off affairs when people earning £50k a week are unwilling to take a pay cut and expect the people doing all the basic jobs at the club to take huge cuts or just be made redundant.

Liverpool has announced they will also be furloughing some of their non playing staff.

PFA saying that reducing players pay is a bad idea because it will deprive the NHS of money because of the reduced tax contributions.

As if any of these strawberry floaters are actually paying tax!

Well they should as well, obviously. That c*** who runs Spurs, Levy. What a greedy shite. The fact that his first instinct is to shave money off the lowest-paid staff is entirely typical of so many people at that level. Evil little c****. You’ve no idea. They wouldn’t piss on a nurse if they were on fire. They are only bothered about wealthy people. They think the wealthy are better people and more important. Seriously, they do. They wouldn’t understand why people would be disgusted at what he’s done there.
