I wouldn't class it as a dive when an opposition player fouls you by treading on you personally. It was even clearer from the reverse angle during the VAR check, which judging by the conversation they didn't show on MOTD?

Either it was a joke that missed the mark, he's scared of his defenders getting ruined next week or he genuinely thinks that, regardless I'm baffled as to what he was thinking. With City often struggling and wilting at Anfield, I'm not sure throwing a big old can of petrol onto that fire was the smartest thing to do.

I wonder if accusing other teams of being cheats risks getting a charge of bringing the game into disrepute too.

Yes, it was a pretty crass thing to say. He also sounded really bitter about Liverpool (probably winning the Euro Cup, when he hasnt reached a final for 9 years)

Can someone link me to a vid or summarise what he said?

I cant find a clip, but he said it during the post match interview.

Basically said that Mane (and Liverpool) had a talent for scoring late goals. Then went on to say that sometimes he does it by talent and other times by diving.

MOTD showed strawberry float all as usual. Nice work with that image.

To be fair, on MOTD it looked like a massive dive, probably the way he arched his back and flicked his legs up. But having seen that image, it was probably because the defenders whole body weight was on his foot!

Also, i'm yet to see a convincing video/still image of Mane or Salah diving.

Yeah, I originally thought that it was a dive too. Shame Atkinson missed the point of VAR in that you don't have to stick with your first impression.

Var needs to be scrapped asap, it has ruined the game.

On another note, i hope we get smashed so poch leaves. Can’t stand him managing our club anymore, picking the wrong players, formations etc. Get mourinho in asap.

Mane simulated a far greater level of contact than he actually received in an attempt to win a penalty.

Why would anyone want Mourinho to manage their team. Even I don’t want him to manage Everton!

He’s past his best. Doesn’t use young players. Want a huge transfer kitty (so he wouldn’t go to Tottenham.) Rather airing his grievances about how poor a player is publicly than keeping it to the dressing room.

Mourinho is a toxic manager.

Despite that, he still got trod on and fouled.

It's an unfortunate issue with the modern game in that if you are fouled and don't go down, you invariably don't get a freekick or penalty. I'd hoped VAR would make this scenario less of an issue by punishing players who do commit this sort of foul, to the point players wouldn't feel the need to go down, but it seems to be muddying the water more than anything.

I don't agree, there is minimal contact us but it's not a definite foul. There was far more contact from Lovren on Kane last week.

I'd rather burn the Emirates down myself then see him be manager.

Standing on someones foot is clearly a foul. Anywhere other than lower body it's debatable if it's a foul worthy of going down.

Clipping someone shin isn't standing on their foot.

There's a clear picture of it....

EDIT: And besides, that's still enough to trip someone up when running.

Haha. Definitely. He doesn't even guarantee you silverware these days, so it's not worth putting up with him being a cock.

I don’t want Mane to get a pen for that tbh, if he fell down and was tripped fine, but he dived.

The ‘offside’ however is clearly mental.

Seems fairly clear that the Villa player gets a chunk of Mane’s foot to me.

Yeah I don't think it's a penalty but giving him a yellow is also harsh
