Amazon Scores Weekly Soccer Series Fronted By Ex-Liverpool Legend Peter Crouch

Amazon is to launch a weekly soccer series featuring former Liverpool legend Peter Crouch. The SVOD service is to air weekly studio entertainment format Back of the Net during the English Premier League season – coming after it scored the rights to a handful of live games from next season.

Crouch, who scored 42 goals in three seasons for the six-times European champions, is hosting alongside broadcaster Gabby Logan and comedian John Bishop.

The show will launch this summer to coincide with the start of the season and episodes will be released every Tuesday after each Premier League round. Each week the team will be joined by a live studio audience, and a mix of celebrity and football guests. They look back at the matches and forward to the next and it will also feature football greats telling stories and revealing secret talents.

Amazon Prime Video Scores Landmark Soccer Doc Series ‘This Is Football’

The SVOD service will launch This Is Football, a six-part series that will look at the stories behind the world’s most popular sport, on August 2.

The series will explore the emotions, stories, passions and triumphs behind the sport. Each episode will tackle a different theme including redemption, looking at the sports’ role in rebuilding Rwanda after the genocide, belief, looking at the rise of the women’s game, pride, exploring how Iceland’s underdogs have overperformed, and wonder, unlocking the secrets of Lionel Messi’s genius.

They're being very generous with the old "legend" moniker there.

'Landmark' :slol:

edit: Landmark would be more apt for Crouch than the series.

Wouldn't surprise me if they became Frank Lampard's Former Club Derby County.

Excuse me, but Crouch is absolutely a legend :capnscotty:

Not for his football, but his podcasts are great.

It's so odd to me that Peter Crouch is having a cultural moment right now.

Peter Crouch didn't score that many for Liverpool, did he? He was only really a Plan B and not a starter from what I remember?

Edit - I mean, I could have just checked Wiki. 22 goals apparently.

Just get a temp manager for six months and re employ him in January when Chelsea let him go.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.

It's Peru vs Brazil for the Copa America, after Peru smashed Chile 3-0 to prevent them winning a third-consecutive title.

I don't fancy their chances in the final, to be honest. They faced Brazil in the last group game, losing 5-0 :slol:

That Amazon series sounds so uninspiring..."landmark" :fp:
And John Bishop is always a reason to avoid watching something. :dread:

Ned-Swe match was very dull last night, can't see the USA losing the final.

Really don't get why Lampard has gone to Chelsea so early in his career. It's not as if they're a club that will hire a guy for 10 years and Lampard won't get another opportunity - the average lifespan of a Chelsea manager is 437 days

He seems like a really good guy though so I hope he's (moderately) successful and, who knows, if he excels at Stamford Bridge he could have a shot at the national job?

510,000 (50.8% share) children aged 4-15 watched England vs. USA on Tuesday.

The importance of putting live sport on free TV. Inspiring a generation, and getting them interested in the game. More children alone watching this than the entirety of the World Cup cricket on Sky or really crappy Premier League matches.

About 1 in 5 or some shite.

EDIT: He was actually a lot better than that. 42 goals in 134 games (all comps)

I'll defend the labelling of Crouch as a "Legend" all day long, guy is awesome.

But all legends are not equal of course, Crouchy is less "Legend of Zelda" and more on the "Legend of Bagger Vance" end of the scale!
