I like seeing Everton do well, it’s just the feeling isn’t mutual for Everton fans.

It’s like an annoying little brother who is jealous of you and wishes you bad, but you still want him to do well.

I think you might be in the minority there...

Liverpool fans I talk to seem to not be too bothered by Everton. Everton fans I talk to seem to be obsessed with hating Liverpool. All seems silly to me, they're just football teams.

Although saying that, we all hate Chelsea.

My 2 best friends are Everton fans, one hates Liverpool with a fiery passion and the other isn’t too bothered, I hope Everton do well apart from in the Derby.

Not meaning to sound snarky but have you ever lived in Liverpool? Local rivalries are built on proximity, if you're one of the many Liverpool fans from outside of the city (e.g. the massive following in Ireland) then you probably won't get it.

I don't live in Liverpool but watch both Redmen TV and Toffee TV you tube channels (they film in same building apparently) and they all get on pretty well and the only real bile that sometimes comes is Baz from Toffee TV, now, I personally don't have a problem with this and I actually like all the guys from both channels but there tends to be a smidgen more hatred from Everton towards Liverpool than the other way around, but I don't actually live in Liverpool so I don't actually know either way.

I am a Scouse Kopite and feel similarly. I have friends and family who support Everton and I don't want them to relegated. It wouldn't be good for the city either.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Two things: it would be a very sad thing indeed if one of the biggest local rivalries in English football became meaningless. Rivalries do not have to be built on hatred.

The Liverpool and Everton rivalry does seem to be one of the more friendly ones.

When Bristol Rovers dropped out of the league, I strawberry floating loved it.

I live in Liverpool and as someone not invested in that rivalry but immersed in it due to where I live I see it as very friendly. I think because of the longstanding gulf in quality there's less "professional" spice to the rivalry - the NLD is certainly a bigger deal now the teams are vying for similar prizes, and when Arsenal and United were playing title deciders it was electric. Outside of bragging rights there's little at stake other than the league points, and because Liverpool have bigger fish to fry, so to speak, it'll be a bigger game for Everton relatively speaking. Everton fans are also quite good at the whole self-deprecation thing and on the whole they're a good bunch.

Liverpool and United, on the other hand! My mate went to a training day in Manchester a while ago and was in the pub with some other delegates. He mentioned he was a Liverpool fan when they were talking about who would win the league this year and one of the blokes just flat out refused to talk to him after that

I'd miss the derby, but if Tottenham gave it the biggun to us for years about the Emirates being a millstone then built their own ground and got relegated, I'd nut so hard my scrotum would look like two raisins in an empty crisp packet.

It wouldn’t be a football thread without some controversy over the thread title.

Rivalry like Everton and Liverpool is a different kind of fish.

Everton haven’t won anything for years so they wouldn’t be on Liverpool fans’ minds. But Liverpool is more successful than Everton so it’s natural for Everton fans hating them.

You wouldn’t see the bile like you get from both sides of fans for Celtic and Rangers. It’s very toxic.
