At least one of the ‘big six’ English clubs is considering whether to withdraw from the new Super League after being taken aback by the volume of opposition, including from their own fans.

Although Super League insiders insist that all 12 are committed to the project, The Times understands that at least one English club is having emergency internal discussions on the best way forward, with some of the executives deeply concerned about alienating their fans.

Uefa has left the door open for any of the 12 Super League clubs to change their minds, and its president Aleksander Ceferin this morning made a direct approach to the English clubs specifically.

“What matters is that there is still time to change your mind. Everyone makes mistakes in life. English fans deserve to have you correct your mistake. They deserve respect,” Ceferin said.

Haven't the clubs already signed a 23 year commitment? Surely it's not just a case of changing your mind.

The problem is no one knows at the moment, it's all rumours and 'leaks'. The facts we know are from their statement of intent.

They've clearly been meeting and discussing this for a few years so it would be incredibly surprising if they haven't discussed any of their with media partners worldwide especially as they want to launch this year. Media deals are normally signed at least a year in advance in football.

I don't believe they'd go into this without some contract tying everyone in. Twenty three years sound like a lot but there must be some penalty for withdrawing.
