Rashford can do whatever he wants with his money, Robbie Fowler invested in properties too and is minted. Can’t believe you’re jumping on him, I mean put rivalries aside, the UK press are now gonna start going for him because he’s embarrassed the government too many times. Rich guy says we should help kids and then spends money? CHAMPAGNE SOCIALIST HYPOCRITE!

We're unlucky to be 2 down here. They've done little aside from a deflected goal and scored a very good free kick from an incorrectly awarded set-piece.

One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

I might have to seek a replay - the one I saw showed Rice taking the ball off of KDB's toes, then the latter following through into Rice's calf.

Just looked into Fowler. Apparently he owns around 80 properties and this is a description of his strategy, which he sells at £1,000/head courses in how to be a successful landlord:

...for the most part he follows a simple approach in an effort to minimise risk - buy family-based properties at a level whereby they’re easier to rent out as mortgages aren’t as readily available as they once were, at least not without large deposits.

What a strawberry floating banana split. Oh, hang on, Photek says "he's minted" so I guess it's alright.

I didn't think it was a free kick.

I know he got us to a Semi Final (and the Nations League Finals previously), bit I think England have more strength in depth than we've had for a while, but I think Southgate is strawberry floating it up and out of his depth.

The team he started with tonight was stupid.

Another stellar England performance :datass:

Don't see how it was a free kick for Belgium's second, but can't argue with the execution, was a lovely goal.

Felt like Kane and Grealish vs Belgium for most of the second half, nobody else seemed to be trying. I've never seen Sancho have a good game for England - not sure what he offers us, at least in this formation - and the usual suspects of Dier, Rice, and Winks offered nothing at all. And when we're 2-0 down and chasing the game, why would you swap Henderson for Winks?

Talking before the game about 'hunting down' teams like Belgium, and then Gary goes and plays the same dull, defensive formation that's seen us barely score from open play and sends everyone to sleep through boredom. Please go back to 4-3-3. Even if we lose at least it might be entertaining.

Belgium were probably a touch flattered by the scoreline but yeah it's hard to say that was anything other than a poor England performance.

The setup from Southgate is just so poor, not only in terms of continuing to pick players who consistently fail to deliver but also with respect to the way he seems to send the team out to play.

Pleased to see Grealish doing his best and he was probably the best player on the pitch but it would be nice if the rest of the England team looked like they at least gave a gooseberry fool.

This Grealish stuff is getting nauseating. He’s a good player but Villa fans need to calm down though just a tad.

I disagree. From an England perspective it's refreshing to see a player in the middle of the pitch who can run at players and create something. So many of our other midfield options are either defensively minded or simply make up the numbers - the likes of Winks and Mount, whilst technically decent enough and performing a specific role well for their clubs, simply bring nothing to the table in this system, they just go through the motions. Lee Dixon (inadvertently) summed this up well when commentating recently, I think perhaps in the Ireland game, when he praised Mount as [I don't recall the exact quote but along the lines of:] "such a good player, he's so good at receiving the ball from defence and passing it to another player", which is so shockingly basic that it's no wonder we fail to create much from open play as a side.

Two years since we dominated Spain in Spain and we've gone backwards so much since then. That day we played 4-3-3 with Dier as a holding midfielder, Barkley as a no. 10 and Winks actually with something to do in joining those lines. Two actual wide players with intent, and a good number nine. Why did we ditch this system to play a 3-4-3 that most of the players involved aren't familiar with at club level?

To be fair to Gary, he was missing an enormous amount of players. He didn't have much choice but to play the Clown Gang (Dier, Trippier, Walker).

The management wasn't good though. If you as manager deploy two midfielders in holding roles, in front of 3CBs, you're basically setting your team up to not concede. When you go 2-0 down in the first 30 minutes, that plan is out the window and you need to change the team's approach, immediately.

This didn't happen and that's where Southgate's failing was last night. Once it became 2-0 we should have reverted to a flat-back 4, with the team looking like this:

GK Pickford
RB Walker
CB Dier
CB Mings
LB Chilwell
CDM Rice
RCM Henderson
LCM Mount
LS Grealish
ST Kane
RS Sancho (subbed on for Trippier)

I don't think Gary thinks this far ahead though. He doesn't have plans for when things don't go as planned.

At times when you watch his England team it's hard to imagine Gary has a plan A let alone any kind of backup plans!

I fear this is all Southgate knows, though. The plan is to not concede. In attack, we press down the wings with pace to create chances for talented goalscorers like Kane, but there's no considering the possibility that we might also create chances through risking possession in the middle of the park, as this undermines the plan not to concede. As a result, creative players are mistrusted and sidelined.

Gareth clearly an avid follower of Royball it seems.

Exactly why I never bother with England games outside of a tournament.

Yeah, strawberry float Robbie Fowler. People like him have absolutely ruined the housing market everyone at the bottom end, really makes me angry. Someone who had access to enough wealth to last a lifetime and he is squeezing even more out of the less fortunate.
