Hand wringing over the warranted jibe in the thread title is, quite frankly, bizarre. The dubious money aspect is a perfectly reasonable area of debate and it's undeniably a significant factor in the success of the club

‘City only keep winning because they’re really rich!’ is a pretty lazy thing to say though, to be fair.

I can’t believe multiple city fans assaulted the Villa keeper and the end of the game. What the hell is wrong with these idiots. A number of fans now seem incapable of controlling themselves.

And there's people out there that believe football supporters in this country are responsible enough for safe standing.

PSG keep spending like bonkers to win the Champions League and it just gets funnier the longer they fail to do so.

The next £2B is sure to get them the trophy.

I actually think it's been a great title race between two excellent teams. Doesn't matter how much money you throw at a club, you still need a quality manager to properly get that team working together. Guardiola and Klopp are both brilliant.

I don't think Liverpool fans should be too despondent; a minor change to a result at any point in the season would have given them the title, it was that close. They'll probably kick themselves at some of the draws they had, but if Man City had finished 2nd they'd be kicking themselves at a couple of their defeats.

Huge "Huh?" at reason for wanting title changed. Yeah, ofc the money was mentioned in the thread. Why does that all of a sudden stop it from being allowed as a thread title when that's never been a limiting factor before? Personally, I don't care, but the reasoning was rubbish. Next thing you know someone will pipe up with "Let's just not have thread title changes" :dread:

Safe standing doesn't require supporters to act responsibility to improve safety in stadiums though.

It would actually make pitch invasions easier to control because it significantly reduces the abilities of fans to surge forward quickly (one of the reasons it is safer).

Bollocks to that. Grow a thicker skin ffs.

I wonder how many times Liverpool fans in here have spoken up about their primary sponsor and how dirty banking money needs to be thrown out of the game...

For the valid reasons I gave. It was petty and mean spirited.

Yes, it had a slight edge to it. But they're champions. They're already over it.

One of the best ways to prevent sportswashing by illiberal nation states is to keep talking about it.

The suggestion that safe standing is impossible with irresponsible fans feels like one of those hangovers from decades of police and press smears against Liverpool fans at Hillsborough.

The last week has exemplified that there are still many irresponsible members of society out there who believe they have a right to storm onto football pitches and assault players.

It is deeply depressing that some people have clearly seen a pitch invader assault a footballer and been inspired like "wow, that was brilliant, I wish I could be that guy!" :|

And that fact has absolutely no bearing on whether safe standing is possible.

Ding ding.

It should frame every discussion, otherwise the sportswashing is working.
