Ridiculous.

I think they had 17 managers in 10 years now. :fp:

They said on the radio yesterday that they'd have sacked their previous managers by now

Although I do think the rate Watford get through managers is ridiculous, in this instance I don't think it's that uncalled for - hasn't he lost like 11 of those 13. His record has been awful, but their squad isn't that bad, certainly no worse than some of the others down there. There's enough games to go that they could still stay up.

How can you have a result like Everton 2-5 Watford and three months later both managers lose their jobs.

Viera must be getting worried. Dean Smith takes souls.

75% of Norwich's wins this season have led to a manager being sacked this season.

A significant portion of Spurs supporters are Jewish.

Jews and gas, Huw.

Yeah and aren't Chelsea fans (not exclusively them though IIRC) known to hiss ominously at Spurs fans, as if to mimic the noise of gas being released? :dread:

Still at least not everything associated with Chelsea is coated in bigotry and intole-

I'm absolutely no fan of Chelsea but they are very obviously talking about cooking and not genocide there. I appreciate there are deeply anti-Semitic sections of Chelsea's support which make it hard to give them as an organisation the benefit of the doubt but I think they do deserve it here just based on that tweet.

Likewise the John Terry/Willian thing is an ape-themed caricature NFT project aimed at kids - he's got his own one as his profile picture. Again, well known racist connotations (and indeed actions by John Terry) make it look like it could be racist (it being a gooseberry fool drawing doesn't help this) but I don't think it actually is racist looking at the wider context. It looks like a strawberry floating terrible idea for entirely different reasons though!

I'm not black and I'm not Jewish and I'm happy to learn from other viewpoints but I don't see hatred behind either of those tweets.

At least eight people are reported to have been killed and dozens hurt in a crush outside an Africa Cup of Nations match in Cameroon.

Video footage showed football fans struggling to get access to the Paul Biya stadium in a neighbourhood of the capital Yaounde. One child is among the dead, according to a health ministry report obtained by the AFP news agency. Another report said a number of children had lost consciousness.

Journalist Leocadia Bongben was at the game. She told the BBC's Newsday programme that she saw commotion coming from one of the "fan zone" areas outside the stadium. "People started shouting. A minute after that an ambulance came to the stadium, but when we got to the place the police would not allow us to get close to where the stampede was," she said.

Don't think I've ever heard the phrase "The gas is on, bringing the heat".

I don't believe for a second that the person who runs the Official Chelsea Twitter account is not aware of the connotations in that Tweet. If they meant nothing of it then the fact it was also then quickly removed doesn't look great.

Not sure I want to give a club with deeply anti-semitic sections the benefit of the doubt either.

It seems like a very Americanised kind of sports phrase, which have become pretty popular on British sports social media accounts. While I think it's actually pretty unlikely that the social media manager of Chelsea is an antisemite, and they'll have hastily deleted it because it would have been instantly pointed out to them how it would be read, I'd love to see whether they use this kind of phrasing against teams that aren't Spurs, or whether there's a history of using other sus phrasing in matches against Spurs.

It doesn't help that of all the teams this could happen with it's Chelsea.

EDIT - Actually you know what I think it's only really "bringing the heat" which might be a sports term, they might have added the gas part themselves. :dread:

You would think these multi-billion pound business's would have strict rules about what is and is not acceptable to use on their social media. Especially with how emotive the industry is.

I don't think you would ever see Liverpool Tweet something Airplane crash related against United. I would be shocked if there wasn't guidance on this sort of thing.

I guess we will never know for sure.

Yeah that's a fair point. At the very best it's a big embarrassing strawberry float up.

Watford are set to appoint former England boss Roy Hodgson as their new manager.

The Hornets are keen to make a swift appointment following Claudio Ranieri's dismissal on Monday with the club in the Premier League's bottom three. Hodgson, 74, has been out of the game since leaving Crystal Palace at the end of last season. At the time, he said he wanted to take a break from the game but did not rule out a return at some point.

Watford want to give Ranieri's replacement as much time as possible to work with the team before a crucial Premier League trip to fellow strugglers Burnley on 5 February. The Pozzo family own the Vicarage Road side and Hodgson worked for them when he had a brief spell in charge of Udinese.

I think it's a massive strawberry float up that should never have been made by someone being paid handsomely to carry out a role like that, who will no doubt have received extensive training specifically on social/cultural/contextual sensitivity etc.

I'd be surprised if the person consciously posted it as an attack on Jewish people but then again I have been surprised many times before!

Topping up the pension fund :datass:

It's annoying because I don't like Watford but Roy is a good lad. Even if it ended poorly he still produced the baseline for what Vieira is doing.

Nah we're alright with him at the moment. Was always going to be a work in progress this season and given the occasional quality play under him I've got no real qualms until we go on a ridiculous losing streak.
