BBC News wrote:Newcastle United have signed New Zealand striker Chris Wood from Burnley for £25m.

The 30-year-old has agreed a contract at St James' Park until the end of the 2023-24 season.

Magpies boss Eddie Howe targeted attacking reinforcements after Callum Wilson was ruled out for eight weeks with a calf injury.

Wood is Newcastle's second signing this month following Kieran Trippier's arrival from Atletico Madrid.

It had been thought Burnley would not sell the player to a Premier League relegation rival, but Newcastle triggered the release clause in his Clarets contract.

Also, regarding Chris Wood, imagine the reaction if Steve Bruce had spent 25m on him

Having said that, I didn't realise he was such a giant:

£25m for a 30 year old from Burnley? They've literally got money to burn.

They've bought him just as much for the goals he won't be scoring for Burnley as for the goals he will (might) be scoring for Newcastle. Smart play really.

He's got 3 goals in 21 appearances this season.

To be fair, he's consistently scored 10-15 goals the past 4-5 seasons. He's just been off form this season. But so have Burnley.

Theyve overpaid but you can see the logic.

yeah, it has weakened Burnley way more than it's strengthened Newcastle. All but condemns Burnley to a long and ultimately unsuccessful relegation fight I'd say.

It's a difficult decision for Burnley. Obvs staying up is worth more than 30m, but at the same time that's a decent amount to invest in Championship. (I think...maybe...prices have gone crazy)

They didn't make a decision, Newcastle triggered his release clause so they couldn't do anything about it

BBC Comments

Richard Browne: Not sure if I'm happy or not about that Liverpool team sheet; first time Klopp has named a team to win this tournament ever; is that our ambition this year?

Does Xhaka miss the derby or the second leg? We don't have any midfielders!
