I'd have thought some people would have thought the writing was in the wall a long time ago!

He didn't really play much last season. Don't think he started a game until the dead rubber against Arsenal. You could maybe put that down to the position was in.

With Richarlison gone he's arguably our best bet of replacing his goals. I hoped with a full pre-season he'd be starting.

Reading between the lines suggests to me Lampard is not happy with his attitude which I believe was the same issue Mourinho and Conte had with him.

This can't be the season I start to feel sorry for Man Utd, it can't.

Yeah - sounds like there's definitely a non-footballing issue there. Perhaps Poch indulged him a little, or maybe his style just brought out the best in him, or he was at his peak- I dunno. But it doesn't seem like that long since he signed!

It's not. I also meant to say, the way the deal was structured we don't pay anything until he makes, I think, 20 appearances. It'll be interesting to see if he reaches that.

Havent seen the game but sounds like Brighton deserved the 3 points.
Still don't have a balanced squad. Time to drop the fruitless pursuit of De Jong and look elsewhere.

Dalot, Fred, McTominay were rubbish and they all made a lot of mistakes. I think ten Hag recognised on those areas and Martinez seems like a decent player. Eriksen was great as usual and he brought his calmness into the squad.

It was a bad start, but I believe ten Hag will be improving and get some new players to strengthen up the squad.

Villa were so bad on Saturday  :dread: :fp:
Gave the ball away so many times. I don't think anyone stood out in any meaningful way. Really poor. The meltdown of some Villa fans online is quite funny though - some people seriously need to get a grip, especially after one game of the season.

Haaland looked good...his pace is frightening, especially combined with how big he is. Was good to see Fulham hold Liverpool, and to see Man U lose. Not too much else to say about other results. Before this weekend my top three prediction would've been:

1. Man City
2. Liverpool
3. Tottenham

and my bottom three would've been:

18. Leeds
19. Fulham
20. Bournemouth

Not going to change that based on the first weekend's results, but think Southampton, Wolves, Everton, and Forest could all struggle. Hope Forest stay up though.

And I followed a lot of the BBC's coverage over the weekend on 5 Live and on TV. Why do they have so many co-commentators and pundits? It's crazy how many they have on the payroll, all spouting shite and adding nothing of value. Huge waste of money.

Haaland is the spitting dabs of one of the villains in Mighty Ducks 2. Surely I can’t be the only one that’s noticed this. The dude is a monster, what a signing. His pace for his second despite his size, holy hell.

Yeah we could be looking at some goalscoring records if his potential in the WHU game is anything to go by, the guy is legitimately frightening.

Having watched him a lot at Dortmund, the only thing that might hold him back is his fitness. Each season he got a medium level injury which saw him miss 15-20 games per season in all comps.

Yes, he was unfortunately out when they played Rangers in the Europa League last season, but looking at his goalscoring stats at Salzburg(17 goals in 16 league appearances) and Dortmund(62 in 67 - how disappointing), I'd say that if he plays as he did there, even if he does miss a chunk of the season we're looking at a 20 goals-per-season man here. Which is insane.

His overall goal tallies in all competitions for Salzburg and Dortmund are even crazier. 29 in 27 for Salzburg and 86 in 89 for Dortmund. He's got as close to a 1/1 record as you'll ever see since he became a first-team player. :dread:

Dalot was exposed by the lack of support he got when double-teamed.

I don't know why Man Utd persist with McFred. McTominay is a decent ball-winner but Fred does very little besides making short sideways passes. He doesn't progress the ball and he can't tackle. I'd put Eriksen and Van der Beek in there. Neither are ball-winners but they can at least dictate the game and spray passes up the field.

Haaland is the genetic result of a footballer reproducing with a champion heptathlete and it really does show doesn't it

No one knows why they persist with those two. Neither are good enough. Both lose the ball too cheaply and give away fouls needlessly. Both should be squad players only.

McTominay reminds me quite a bit of Phil Jones. He's decent enough and would do a good job for a mid-level EPL team but in no way good enough for a team that should be aiming at the top of the league.

Genuinely not convinced this is true
