De Jong's an excellent player who would improve most teams and every squad. While Chelsea do have more pressing priorities it's easy to see why the club would take the opportunity to sign him, if he's available.

Chelsea's group of midfielders is good but there's a lot of cavaets attached. Kante will be 32 at the end of the season and is getting more susceptible to injuries as his career goes on. Loftus-Cheek's great potential looks to have been snuffed out somewhat by bad injuries, Gallagher's unique skillset means he's still got question marks over his ability to play in a midfield two and the likes of Gilmour and Chukwuemeka probbaly need more seasoning before they can be relied upon by a Champions League team.

Which leaves Kovacic, (Who is excellent, tbf) and Ross Barkley, who among the many professional footballers, is definitely one of them.

You've forgotten Jorginho, which IMO is perfectly reasonable, but managers seem to love him.

League Cup draw:

Northern section

Bolton Wanderers v Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa

Derby County v West Bromwich Albion or Sheffield United

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Preston North End

Leeds United v Barnsley

Fleetwood Town v Frank Lampard's Everton

Sheffield Wednesday v Rochdale

Tranmere Rovers v Newcastle United

Rotherham United v Morecambe

Barrow v Lincoln City

Stockport County v Leicester City

Bradford City v Blackburn Rovers

Grimsby Town v Nottingham Forest

Shrewsbury Town v Burnley

Southern section

Stevenage v Peterborough United

Norwich City v AFC Bournemouth

Newport County v Portsmouth

Oxford United v Crystal Palace

Watford v Milton Keynes Dons

Colchester United v Brentford

Wycombe Wanderers v Bristol City

Walsall v Charlton Athletic

Crawley Town v Fulham

Cambridge United v Southampton

Gillingham v Exeter City

Forest Green Rovers v Brighton & Hove Albion

What with all the World Cup gooseberry fool going on, it's going to be another hectic schedule this season. The season's barely started but there's a period later this month where Villa have the following:

20th Aug - Crystal Palace
23rd Aug - Bolton
28th Aug - West Ham
31st Aug - Arsenal
3rd Sep - Man City

Of course other clubs will have similar, but you just feel it's going to be mental trying to cram everything in.

I think everyone has that format for the rest of the month, but it's going to absolutely knacker the players. Especially the ones going off to Qatar.

Indeed. This is going to be an absolutely horrendous season, especially for players and clubs with intentions of going deep into all competitions, or who are involved in Europe.

If you are a Premier League club not in Europe, you just need to suck it up, you'll have the least games of anyone in the Football League by a distance. 8 less league games.

Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa will play Frank Lampard's Everton in the 12:30 kick-off tomorrow. I'm ready to be disappointed :datass:

And what's all this about PSG wanting Rashford - a load of rubbish, surely, or his agent trying to stir something up? If there's any truth at all in it though, Man U should bite their hand off - he's beyond awful, so any money would be good money.

Seems like the rumour has evaporated almost as quickly as it appeared, sadly :(

Rashford is PSG's Arnautovic.

Definitely Rashford's agent.

Whack £75m+ and get rid of him to PSG.

United's third kit is nice. :datass:

It's handy because when they're not playing, they can do some roadworks on the side.
