Sonic Frontiers could actually be decent. Here's hoping it does for BotW what Crackdown did for the first wave of 3D GTA games.

Feels like this is getting bigger and more hyped but just worse every year. I know Geoff overhypes stuff so wasn't expecting much but got no idea what he was referring to the other day with this claim of having 4-5 Elden Ring level announcements.

Doesn't help that Sony and Nintendo don't seem to feel like playing along and joining in. They're the two that can really do the big, hype announcements that get people talking, would be cool to see them both go back to the stage show presentations.

so what was the impact life is strange true colours had that won it the award?

I realise that probably sounds facetious but I am curious as to how they judge impact

Going over all the announcements, there’s not really an awful lot of really exciting next gen stuff in the pipeline, a lot of the games look pretty but gameplay is standard fair we have been seeing since the 360 days

Rewatching some of this and it's really awkward when Metroid wins best AA and Doug Bowser just gets up and reads a marketing pitch

I appreciate that the winner of GOTY got zero votes in our poll of the nominations

Glad Metroid Dread won best adventure game. As a non-metroidvania and not really a Metroid fan - it really is great.

Encouraging thing for me is theres a fair few colourful 3d platform games that were nominated; ratchet and crank, it takes 2, psychonauts 2 plus there was a bunch of other well received 3d platform games like Crash 4, and sackboy that didn't make the cut plus more to come next year such as Kirby - looks like we're in the middle of a 3d platformer renaissance this gen like we were with 2d platformers during the Wii era.
