...good work, Tony. I like how you're using the "I still have games X and Y to play" when considering a new purchase; that's a great technique.

I bought the Booster Pass for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe but that’s all this month right now :toot:

EDIT: I picked up Dying Light: Platinum Edition on Switch using CEX credit so spent zero on it but it’s a new game so technically it counts as a purchase

I guess that Jan and Feb are usually a quieter time for gaming so the pressure is gonna crank up in the coming months. I think my next purchase is gonna be Elden Ring.

I am still on zero but wavering :dread:

I don't have to because I managed to get away with the Expansion Pack counting as a Christmas present for someone else. Which to be fair, it was. :slol:

Still a big fat zero for me!

I was surfing some sales the other day, but realised that buying something would be due to boredom shopping rather than anything I actually needed.

Hence, I purchased a spaghetti jar instead, and felt like an adult.

An adult with well kept pasta, no less.

Oh! Dang, yeah... I'd kinda forgotten that yesterday I purchased a Nintendo Online sub and that new Kart DLC (taking advantage of the circa £17 price at ShopTo). Guess I'd better add this to the OP.

Ah! I will update your entry in the OP, IM!

It is tough, isn't it, GG? I started off okay but I kinda feel the pressure rising now.

Abacus, dude, you're doing well. I enjoyed hearing about your pasta distraction technique :toot: .

Sold my playstation 5 and bought an Xbox Series S. I paid £27 for a years worth of game pass ultimate (Use of VPN etc) so not sure if that counts towards my goal? No individual games purchased with my own money yet but I have a feeling that will change with Elden Ring.

Hey, Proto... you sold your PS5? And switched to Xbox? You've crossed the great divide! I'm not sure if subscriptions count as a game purchase; I kinda guess they do but for now I've just noted it in the OP.

Purely because of the cost of digital games. I had the digital PS5. Will no doubt buy a PS5 further down the line (I usually wait for the slim model before jumping in). For now, game pass will serve me well.

£27 is easily the price of a game, so happy to take one of my total for that purchase.

I’d be interested to know what you think of your decision after a couple of months with the Series S & Gamepass, as I’ve been thinking along the same lines. Would actually end up in profit, given that the trade in price of a PS5 is still high, and would then buy another PS5 in 12-24 months time, in the knowledge that I have a backlog of PS5 games to play plus any of the Sony exclusives I’ll have missed.

My decision is not a reflection of quality on the PS5's part. It's an excellent machine, but I made a booboo buying the digital console. The games just aren't there yet and it just feels like having a super-powered PS4 Pro at this stage. Which for some people will be excellent, obviously!

I bought the console for £359 and sold it for £400. Bought the Xbox and Game Pass for £240 and £27 respectively. So far, with my tendencies of getting bored with things easily, gamepass is exactly the format that seems tailor made for me.

I am extremely fickle though, so please don't base any of your purchasing decisions on my spontaneity

Haha, yep fickle here as well. I'd probably end up buying a Series S, love it, and then start thinking 'why didn't I get a Series X?' :) :)

PS5 is a superb machine and I can't really see myself getting rid of it (and, I did, I know I'd be buying another one in a couple of years time, to sit along the Series S). It's more a case of what Gamepass offers, especially all the indie games and multi-format stuff that launches on it, yet costs per game on the PS5. Maybe it's the newness aspect of it that's so appealing, that there will be a steady refresh of games all year at no extra cost.

Having said all of that, and as proven by posting in Jawa's thread in the first place, my main aim this year is actually to play the games on PS4/PS5 that I already own and haven't played (or have played little of....hello Demon's Souls and Returnal, looking at you here), rather than buy anything new. Maybe I should get back to that and stop looking at the various Xbox thread on here. :)

I'm not actually trying to limit myself to 10 games this year, I just want to spend < £300 on games.

So far I've spent around £15 (Death's Door and X-com 2)

Right, so my plan was going so well - but I'm struggling to get into Assassins Creed Valhalla (I know I will after I've sunk a lot of time into it, but it isn't quite there at the moment), and am close to the end of the campaign in F.I.S.T. and have spent most of the past couple of gaming sessions backtracking here and there, with via a poorly designed fast-travel system, to level up as much as I can before the final battle. This has been frustrating and has led me to want to play something different for a few days. Instead of diving into my backlog, I've bought Horizon Forbidden West.....

:D :D

Can you update my post please Jawa? Bought the PS4 Digital edition, to take advantage of Sony's generous (dripping with sarcasm) free upgrade to the PS5 version.

I also downloaded the PS5 upgrade of Cyberpunk 2077 - but, as I bought the PS4 version when it was cheap last year, that doesn't count....does it? :)

Tony, I've only just seen this - OP updated! Yeah, Cyberpunk doesn't count - I've noted it as you'd bought the older version and just paid an upgrade fee. I've added on Horizon, though!

- - - - - - - - - -

I've updated my details too, reflecting my Elden Ring purchase. I made a good start to this project but February has wrecked me :shifty: .

Update to my list

Pokemon Legends: Arceus (NSW) - £0.00 (Trade in)
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass (NSW) - £16.85
Bioshock The Collection (NSW) - £0.00 (Trade in)
South Park: The Stick of Truth (NSW) - £0.00 (Trade in)
Lego Marvel Superheroes 2 (NSW) - £0.00 (Trade in)
Dying Light: Platinum Edition (NSW) - £0.00 (Trade in)
XCOM 2 Collection (NSW) - £3.99
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection upgrade (PS5) - £0.00 (Trade in)
Journey to the Savage Planet (NSW) - £0.00 (Trade in)

So, basically, I swapped a lot of PS4 versions of games I had for the Switch version as that’s the system I play the most. Whilst it has technically buggered my list of new games purchased this year so far, the main thing for me is I’ve still spent less than £25 so far this year on games which is great.
