The game-buying commitment thread

Hey, folks, recently I've been buying more games than I can really afford and I want to sort it out.

> I am going to make a commitment to only purchase a maximum of twelve games over the next twelve months. I could buy twelve this afternoon or just one in the next six months... it doesn't matter as long as the "maximum of twelve" is met.

> To help me achieve this goal I will post here whenever I do purchase a game. I may also post when I resist a purchase, just as a way of keeping my motivation going.

So, my commitment starts now.

If anyone else would like to join in by making a game-buying commitment, please feel free to post the details and then also update in this thread. We can do this together!

No commitment from me, I'm relatively organised with my buying and playing of games. Just here to stare at Jawa unnervingly and make sure he meets his commitment.

Jawa, you should use the Bought/played/completed thread, that's what I use to track my spending on games and how many I actually play.

You guys!

Right now I have just one pre-order and that's a disc copy of Elden Ring.

I did wonder about that, IM, but I usually stop as I tend to reach a point of being annoyed at what I've bought (and not played). Hopefully this method of effectively setting a "limit" marker in the earth will help.

I've been considering buying no games whatsoever for 12 straight months and going through what I have already. That would be pretty hardcore.

That certainly would be a tough target, Gecko. You would be welcome to join me in aiming for our goals if you wanted to. I'd suggest that buying zero games may be extremely difficult (supposing you see a Switch title in a sale?!)... if you decided to - as I have - say "maximum 12", that doesn't mean you have to buy twelve. Buy fewer if you want :-).

I envy people who have so much money that they complain about their own idiotic lack of self control when it comes to spending money on things they might get round to using one day.

When anyone ever talks about their 'backlog' consisting of games they've purchased but haven't got around to and that list is more than one game I automatically categorize that person as a complete strawberry floating melon.

You're making assumptions rather than asking questions, CK, and then categorising people in pretty offensive ways based on those assumptions. Take a breath and chill out a bit.

Seeing as I reckon nearly everyone on has a backlog of more than one game, can we change the logo to Melons and Stuff?

How am I supposed to chill out when people are doing things I wouldn’t do. I’m frantic, I think I’m going to have a heart attack just thinking about it.

Just to clarify - and, tbh, I think it was pretty clear enough anyway but here we are - this was not an "I'm rich!" post. It was highlighting that, recently, I've been buying games that I shouldn't because I can't afford to do so... and so I'm going to try and do something to change that pattern of behaviour. No more than that.
