Now I just need to try and listen to anything they've done on their last two albums as I'm woefully out of date on their oeuvre!

The Mrs asked if we should get tickets for that gig, and I reminded her they've done 1 good album and then every subsequent one has been a camp Bruce Springsteen karaoke Impersonation.

I'm not convinced they even had 1 good album to be fair, Hot Fuss had some great singles but the album tracks are proper filler material.

They've got more than enough big songs to work through a great set, but yeah they haven't exactly got the greatest depth to their catalogue!

I saw the Killers at the Isle of Wight festival a few years ago. It was a lot of fun, they have enough songs to do a decent set.

Far better than Kings of Leon. :dread: :dread: :dread:

So, having seen Muse in London at the start of the month, I'm now in Manchester ready for Metallica's gig tonight at the Etihad.

5th time I'll have seen them, but first time in about 25yrs at an open air gig. Really looking forward to this

Also, first ever time at the Etihad.

They are excellent live but I find them a bit...I dunno, sanitised nowadays? Regardless, it’s a great experience. Enjoy!

Allegedly they're banned from all venues in Glasgow because the council didn't realise how intense their pyro is and shat it when they played the SECC in 2005

The pyro at the end is insane.

Also, Till smacking Flake's head into the keyboards :slol:

They're excellent live, saw them at Sonisphere '11(?) and Download 2012(?) - great sets, great pyro, weird dick obsession. Everything you could ask for really.

5th time and they still dont disappoint. Metallica rocked the Etihad, despite the pouring rain.

Ghost were good too. Knew a couple of their songs but their stage presence was good. Enjoyed their hour long set

Next gig is KISS in 3 weeks with the wife and kids. Still got Volbeat and Muse (again) in Sept too. Loving this year's gigs

Ghost are going to be strawberry floating enormous. The sound was diabolical for their set in the Etihad but you can just tell their stage presence, their song writing, and their control of a crowd which isn’t even their own is coming on leaps and bounds. Absolutely loved them since the first album, couldn’t be happier to see them growing.

As for Metallica... 18th show, what more do you need to know? They were awesome and I finally got a song from St Anger (i like the album) and finally got Disposable Heroes. their new outdoors setup is immense - those screens really do dominate the place. Looking forward to show 19 in London in a couple of days time. :)

Where were you? The sound for Ghost was fine for me, and Tallica too obvs. But I did read some people up in the gods at the back were complaining about the sound and apparently left early as a result!

I was in the lower tier of the block to the left of the stage. Great unobstructed view of the whole band all night, although didn’t get to fully appreciate the giant screens due to the angle I was at. But, the main thing is watching the band themselves not the tv so I’m happy.
Plus I stayed dry all night too

Enjoy #19

Nah I was down in the middle of the golden circle. Various spots at all sorts of angles cos I didn't want to settle for somewhere with bad sound, and I didn't want to breathing second hand smoke all night (which pushed me away from a fairly good one!)

It was fine for Metallica so I guess it was just one of those "we didn't turn it up properly for the support" things.

19 should hopefully have a couple of changes so fingers crossed I get Frantic (the other St Anger song they're rotating) and a couple of others :D

I see you're a rare St. Anger fan, but if I'd paid £100 and travelled to Manchester for that and heard St. Anger over some of the other stuff they could've played, I'd be raging. Having said that, I *love* The Unforgiven and The Memory Remains, so horses for courses I guess.

Although having said that, after seeing them 5 times I actually probably wouldn't mind the variety of hearing a few songs off St. Anger(the two mentioned and maybe Sweet Amber or The Unnamed Feeling) - I can't imagine how I'd be feeling after 18 gigs. How many individual 'Tallica songs have you heard Wrathy?

The thing is, I wasn't actually going to go to Manchester until I saw the first leg setlists. I bought London and was happy to leave it at that. The St Anger slot (along with the rotations in the 3rd, 4th, and 9th spots) all give a relatively strong chance of hearing something I haven't heard before, so for me it was worth it. Plus the fact they're obviously my favourite band in the game and probably won't be around forever, so I'd regret not seeing them as much as possible anyway!

According to setlist.fm I've seen 68 different songs. :D The full list is here, idk if it'll let you click through - https://www.setlist.fm/songs/Wrathy?artist=3bd680c8

Among the more "glad I got those" are probably the black album in full and the frayed ends of sanity (I flew to Finland for that one!). I still haven't heard a single song from Load though. :slol:

Forgot to mention it at the time but saw Tenacious D with DML a few weeks ago at Wembley Arena. They were strawberry floating ace.

They were playing the same night as Korean mega boy-band BTS were in the Stadium next door - the mix of people dispersing afterwards was pretty funny.

Show 19 was awesome. I missed The Thing That Should Not Be (they played Harvester of Sorrow instead; a great live song, but Thingy is better and I haven't heard it 5 times!) but they did No Leaf Clover and Frantic, so that made up for it a bit. :D Crowd was incredibly rowdy, started a mosh pit seven songs in which didn't really slow down and were singing along like mad to basically everything. I got a video of Bellz as a keepsake.

Just had a look at this years Glastonbury lineup and aside from the Chemical Brothers on saturday there's literally no-one else that I'm bothered about watching.

Aside from the headliners and and one or two others I've no idea who the vast majority of them are.

Me and the wife were talking about this last night. We used to go every year, and while you don't know the line-up when you buy the tickets, more often than not there would be a lot you'd like to see. The past few years have been bloody awful, and this year if we'd gone there would be barely anything we'd want to watch.

"OH BUT IT'S NOT ABOUT THE MUSIC IT'S ABOUT THE VIBE!"

The first few times maybe, but I could draw the entire site for you from memory now, and I know what most of it is like so there's be no discovery. The price of the tickets plus food and drink etc just makes it crazy money for two people. We now spend that money going to one really good show, usually abroad somewhere, that we really want to see.

The amount of middle aged middle class people you see on the coverage :dread:
