But isn't Adam Lambert an American Idol runner up with only an okay voice? And the Queen band??? They are musicians and don't sing so why do people want to see them? Plenty of people can play a guitar well...who cares if it's the original guitarist.

I can only assume people like the gig to hear the music and see the special effects regardless of who's playing the music.

Somebody has never listened to Brian May's badger song.

Nah, that just kinda surprised me. Might as well have said "Who cares that it's just four guys in Sgt Peppers uniforms? It's still the Beatles"

I'd love to see The Beatles but these days you can only see the bassist, and anyone can play bass

But Paul sings too. It's just me I don't get it when people like to go see someone who doesn't sing.

Because bands are made up of a collaboration between several musicians they aren't just some bloke's backing band. They are all cogs in one big musical machine. When you go to see a band you are seeing just that, a band. You aren't just there to see the front man unless it's a solo artist.

You may as well say "That Mozart was shite, he didn't even have a singer"

Some people like the London Symphony Orchestra but I think they are shite as they never sing Thriller, just play it on shitty violins. :x

I guess I only appreciate solo artists and not bands where there is usually a lead singer and the rest are just doing backing stuff.

So to me this Queen and Adam Lambert tour is like watching an American Idol Z lister singing along to some Queen songs with a famous guitarist. Each to their own. Not my cup of tea.

Thanks for the replies as usual anyway :)

Thanks that was pretty cool!

But any orchestra could do that arrangement and make it sound the same more or less ;)

I remember seeing Slipknot once and thinking they could really get rid of the 8 nobodies, I'd be just as happy seeing Corey Taylor with a karaoke machine.

Same with Rammstein, the gig would have been just as enjoyable without all the nonsense like Flake rowing a rubber dinghy across the crowd.

But any musician can just read the notes and play the same music. Just like how solo artists constantly have different bands doing the music for them.
Same as the London Symphony Orchestra doing a cover of thriller. Give the music sheets to another orchestra and there you go the same ;)

The difference is with a band 9 times out of 10 people are performing songs they wrote, they have a connection with the music as it’s part of them. They aren’t just faces performing somebody else’s material.

If you are only into solo artists then that’s fair enough but reducing the contributions of some of the best musicians and performers in the world to just ‘so and so’s backing band’ is fairy narrow minded.

I’d actually argue that in most cases you couldn’t just give a piece of music to any musician and have them play it exactly the same as every performer is unique and has their own playing style.

Any vocalist can read just read the words and sing the same song.

Or do you think vocalists have their own style and sound? Because musicians absolutely do too
