Don't think I've ever actually heard anything by Mogwai.

Yes, instrumental post-rock. They do a lot of movie and TV work nowadays too. I don't know that you'll be a fan, but if you do want to try them, go for something like I'm Jim Morrison, I'm Dead, Glasgow Mega Snake or Coolverine.
