To be fair whether this game flops or not, I don't think Amazon will be going anywhere any time soon. It could turn out a pile of garbage in which case I'll avoid it but I like the Grand Tour and if it ends up being a bit of cheap fun I'll give it a try..

Having 4 player split screen is appealing for some local multiplayer if the game is fun, not enough games include that these days.

If this was free on Twitch Prime i'd give it a go, but i wouldn't pay actual money for it, especially not £20+ to a megacorporation like amazon.

This is showing for £11.99 at the moment to preorder on the Xbox Store. Still £25 on Amazon so guessing an Xbox pricing error but it's gone through fine. Anyone fancying trying it without paying full price might want to grab it whilst it's cheap assuming they honour the price.

That applies to any licensed game and to be fair, Global Gladiators wasn't a bad game.. was done by the same team that made Cool Spot and Aladdin which were also licensed platformers and also were pretty decent games.

I'm not expecting this to be a great game by any means but I like the show and I feel I'll likely get £12's worth of enjoyment out of it and the split screen could make it decent for a laugh when have mates over, looks like it could be a more simplistic version of Blur which was great fun.

I fully expect this to be horrifically terrible.

It's ok.. for £11.99 it's decent enough.. were it £49.99 it'd be one to avoid.

Played through the Season 1 and 2 content that's included.. the handling it pretty twitchy/arcadey (something like Sonic Racing meets Outrun 2 but not as good as either) but the way it works where you're basically playing through an episode is clever and it's fun enough in a throwaway kind of way.

Multiplayer is like a lite version of Mario Kart or Blur.. racing with powerups basically.

No online play at the moment but I *think* it's being added in soon.

With the first episodes of season 1 and 2 to play through there's a reasonable amount of content for the price anyway then all of season 3 is being added in as each episode airs which should add a lot more content in.

So yeah.. if you like the show and can put up with the janky handling there's some fun to be had.. it's rather easy to complete each event though some are challenging to get a Gold medal in, though that's mostly down to the AI opponents being unfair (it has some shocking rubber-banding) but if you just play through and enjoy the episode as you play, it's alright and a novel way to watch the episodes.

Looking forward to the new one tomorrow to see how it works in game.. guess there'll be a weekly update to the game..

If you don't like the show though, 100% avoid..

The game won't be for me, but I'm interested in how this works exactly? You watch the episode at the same time as playing?

So you watch the episode as normal, when it gets to a driving bit (so in episode 1, you watch the intro with Jezza in London with music playing then he gets to the desert and Hammond/May turn up) then the episode switched to gameplay with you driving Jezzas car through the desert to the tent.. so you basically drive the events from the episode.. the inbetween talking bits play between.

So episode 2 does the hill climb event for example, you play as all three of them doing their go.. when you play as Hammond, once you cross the finish line it switches back to the episode and you see the crash as it aired.

You can skip through the talking bits if you don't want to watch the episode and just want to play (or if you're redoing events to try and improve). It's all quite seamless.. very clever idea, it's just the game bit itself lets it down with the poor handling but it's still a fairly fun experience/experiment. With a bigger budget/longer dev time could've been really good.

Are the episodes still in 4K HDR when watched through the game or have they been downgraded?

Speaking of 4K Grand Tour, anyone else have issues getting it to play on Amazon Prime in 4K?

It's very hit and miss while I have no issues with Netflix, YouTube and Google videos in 4K.

That actually sounds like a really neat idea

It's a nice idea. The gameplay let's it down. The graphics aren't bad and the presentation works well (if you like the show anway). I feel I've got my monies worth from it.. guess they might improve it with patches - I guess they e rushed it a bit to get it out with the new series but for a cheap throwaway game it's alright. If you get it for £11 and like the show you'll probably get enough enjoyment from it.. the handling takes a lot of getting used to though, you have to use the drift button more than the brakes which is odd and even then it sometimes feels like luck more than skill in the races due to the ai. Solo challenges are decent enough though.

I wish you didnt have the show clips after every race as ive already seen it, I assume its all skippable. Every time someone talks the volume seems to drop considerably which I hate.

PLAY | Persona 3 Reloaded [3h]
WATCH | Ted Lasso S3, HiJack S1, Red Dwarf S4, Dexter S2
RACE | Chew Valley 10k (June), GNR (Sept), Cardiff Half (Oct)

The sound mix in game is bad. You cant hear their comments over the engine noise when I play through my soundbar, is better if switch to TV sound and change the in game option to TV too.

Not tried season 3 yet. Kinda wish I'd done the game before watching the episode so it seemed fresh. Might do that next week.
