That was a really weird episode. The look back at old Fords was vaguely interesting but the stupid mourning the ending of Mondeo production was just baffling. Who honestly gives a gooseberry fool.

Then the announcement they’re ending the show and looking back over the last 16 years, Clarkson bursting into tears even. That was quite sad as it’s been great and this on the whole has been a very good season to go out on. But they’re not actually stopping, they’re just not going to have a tent an audience or a track anymore. It was just a really strange way to do the announcement as I’m not sure if I care about the studio bits going. That said if it is just specials it will be a shame to lose lots of the other stuff, but I don’t really know what we will keep getting and what we won’t.

I must admit when I thought they were stopping for good I wasn’t surprised because looking at the state of Ckarkson this season you wonder how many years he’s got left in him.

I guess it’s the end of them being journalists, no more studio and track means no more testing and stuff, it’s just specials so they are now entertainers but not journalists so it is a massive change and an end to a large part of their world.

Watching the latest special which is on Prime now, Seamen.

It’s just them boating through Cambodia and Vietnam and it’s really quite boring. There’s nothing really else to comment on, it’s very much the Clarkson show, he makes the usual stupid political comment and then tries to tell interesting history stories but they’re just not very. It’s an unusual special as I’m not sure what they thought the entertaining parts would be, not a good start to the new special only format.

I think I've just stopped caring about them which is quite a turnaround for me.
I used to be a huge Top Gear fan but I now just find Clarkson a bit gooseberry fool (I prefer him in his serious documentary mode as then he does some great stuff) and he does tend to dominate the show.

I may get round to watching it over Christmas but I'm not bothered if I don't.

Top Gear special was on tonight and it was miles better than TGT special.

Oh, I have to agree. It seems the trio of Top Gear have now got on par with what the original trio offered, with it all back on track. And I think that original trio know that. There's little for them to really do now Top Gear has found its feet again.

Honestly Grand Tour just needs to ditch the studio/tent segments for the non-specials. Then again that's been true even back in the old Top Gear days, the studio segments were just shite that were good for nothing except using the fast forward button. Grand Tour somehow made them even worse though.

They have ditched them and are now just doing specials.

Yes I agreed.

However, I felt like I've seen the Nepal Trip before with Clarkson and the co. At least it was entertaining to watch it. :capnscotty:

It was probably because of all the dangerously thin roads over long drops.

Both specials were gooseberry fool.

Hopefully the Madagascar TGT special is better than that Seamen crap, with all three of them doing different projects for Amazon I can't see TGT lasting much longer.

It’s not very good. He does a miserable awkward Brit abroad schtick. Like a very gooseberry fool Michael Palin. While they go to some interesting places and film some interesting stuff, it doesn’t really produce a very interesting show and I think I like James May less. One episode they do a falling out thing between May and the director and its painful to watch.

Didn’t think much of it either, tbh. There’s so many variations on ‘celebs go travelling’ with a loose theme attached (Michael Portillo and Tony Robinson and their trains, Rick Stein and food, Top Gear and cars, Richard Ayoade and various other celebs)...all I enjoyed watching more than this effort.

James May however was excellent narrating a 2 part documentary on model railways and Hornby last year on BBC4.

Can we change this to the Top Gear thread?

Top Gear is back for a new series and it’s really getting back to its best. The car bungee jump they did in the first episode was strawberry floating bananas, Flintoff has balls of steel to do that it looked absolutely terrifying.
