Most anticipated game: Shenmue III
GRcade Game of the Year 2018: Yakuza 6: The Song of Life

Have yet to play Red Dead/Assassins Creed yet so my votes may change (left multiplayer blank too as the only such game i've played this year is CoD: WWII).

Best visuals: Spiderman
Best audio: God of War
Best multiplayer: Overcooked 2
Most anticipated game: Last of Us 2
GRcade Game of the Year 2018: Astro Bot *

* Had to give Astro Bot one vote for game of the year as it probably won't get any others despite being awesome!

It was sooooo close to being my pick. Ultimately though Spider-Man grabbed me more than any other game has in a long time. Even now though I'm still wavering on it.

Haha, that's exactly the decision I was left between, with GoW a close 3rd.

Most of my games are technically from 2017 but luckily the Nintendo Switch releases bring them into this year.

Best visuals: Owlboy
Best audio: Shadow of the Colossus
Best multiplayer: Super Mario Party - but only because nothing else of note was released and I haven't played enough Battlefield to decide.
Most anticipated game: Cyberpunk 2077
GRcade Game of the Year 2018: Hollow Knight

Bit late, but would it not be easier for all involved to do these kinds of votes on surveymonkey or something similar?

I almost voted Owlboy for best visuals, but I thought it might not count as it originally came out in 2016. You're tempting me to change it now (not that Octopath Traveler is undeserving!)

I'm sure we used to do more categories? Limiting to just awards for audio and visual seems awfully harsh on indie and handheld games. Will still get my votes in.

We did (more than 20!), but I'm trying to balance making it meaningful and manageable. We also get far fewer votes now than a couple of years ago, so more categories would mean we end up with lots where we end up with lots of ties, which I don't think makes for a particularly good set of Awards.

Always happy to consider suggestions for improvements and recommendations.

Any chance of a VR Game of The Year category? I was considering doing a separate topic for it (Still might if you don't want to include it) as VR has really taken a step up in quality this year.

Guess you could do Best Indie Game. Maybe.

Best visuals: Pokémon Let's Go
Best audio: Pokémon Let's Go
Best multiplayer: Super Smash Bros Ultimate
Most anticipated game: Metroid Prime 4
GRcade Game of the Year 2018: Pokémon Let's Go

I haven't bought and played many games this year - most of my time has been split between Xenoblade 2 and Battlefront II - but Pokémon and Smash have kept me yearning for even more Switch time.

Pokémon takes the top spot because it took one of my favourite games and gave it a huge makeover to really bring the world to life and make catching Pokémon feel (to me) less of a chore. I tried replaying Red on the 3DS Virtual Console and eventually gave up but I can't get enough of this. It's really re-invigorated my love of the Pokémon games (thank also to Pokémon Go on mobile) and I'm even more excited for next year's releases :toot:

Smash may be a premature choice but I'll amend it if there are any unpleasant surprises at launch.

I've played so few new releases this year, this is kind of pointless

Best visuals: Yakuza 0Forza Horizon 4
Best audio: Cultist Simulator
Best multiplayer: Two Point Hospital (leaderboards, yeah?)
Most anticipated game: Doom Eternal
GRcade Game of the Year 2018: Yakuza 0

Best Visuals: Forza Horizon 4 - This realisation of Britain looks amazing, almost as though I'm actually driving around in real life.

Best Audio: Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu!/Eevee! - Working the magic of the music and audio to bring to life the nostalgia of those tunes and sounds.

Best Multiplayer: Forza Horizon 4 - Having everyone in the world - even if they are ghosted - is a great things to have. And the Forzathon Live events always offer some laughs *Remembers the person who got T-boned by a train and sent flying*

Most Anticipated Game: Animal Crossing Switch - We know nothing about this, but if New Leaf is any indication, along with the power the Switch brings, it will be one of the best.

GRcade Game of the Year: Forza Horizon 4 - Obvious. Whenever I've been on my Xbox, I've always been on this. Even if that time waas shared with other games, I've always played on this.

Best visuals: OnRush (PS4) Astro-Bot: Rescue Mission (PSVR)
Best audio: OnRush (PS4)
Best multiplayer: Pro Evolution Soccer PES 2019 (PS4)
Most anticipated game: Animal Crossing (Switch)
GRcade Game of the Year 2018: Night in the Woods (Switch)

I wrestled over my GOTY choice; I got a huge buzz from the thrilling OnRush, loving the pace and vibrancy, but, when it came to the crunch, the storyline, characters and touching moments of Night in the Woods edged it into the top spot.

PES is, with my focus exclusively upon the online play, better than ever in my eyes and takes the multiplayer award. And with Animal Crossing... I'm excited, but nervously so. I pray it follows the expansive play of New Leaf / Welcome amiibo! rather than the gouging-for-money Pocket Camp. I'm also keen to see Metro Exodus (even though I'll be scared etc) and Rage 2 (could this be Mad Max 2? :o ).

>>> Updated 16-Dec-2018: Astro-Bot... I knew from the moment I started it that it was superb, but the more I play the more I like it! The graphical presentation is incredible; it really draws you in and it feels fantastic. It has snatched my "graphics" award from OnRush and it is a whisker away from grabbing my "audio" and "GOTY" awards, too. The innovative mixing approach from OnRush is just holding onto the audio one and the storyline and characters in Night in the Woods keeps it in the GOTY position.
