The GRcade Game of the Year Awards 2019

While you can already vote for your games of the decade here, this is the place to pick out the stars of 2019.

It's really simple as always to cast your vote in the only game awards that really matter.

What to do now:

1. Copy and paste the voting form (below), fill in your nominations, and post it in this thread. You don’t have to give your reasons, but if you do it makes for a better discussion.
2. You don’t need to vote in every category, just the ones you feel confident to make a nomination.
3. Only one nomination per category please. If you put multiple votes in, I shall just count the first one mentioned.
4. Voting closes at 11.59pm on 10 January 2020, so there is plenty of time to get your votes in.

Voting form:

Best audio:
Best multiplayer:

I'm just going to vote for the Baldur's Gate 2 remake as winner in every category.

DRAFT

Best visuals: Read Dead Redemption 2 PC

This is undisputed as far as I'm concerned as this is one of the best looking games I've ever played, both in technical grunt and art design. The whole thing is constantly jaw dropping, from sweeping vistas to murky swamps. Nothing short of stunning

Best audio:

Best multiplayer: Destiny 2 Shadowkeep

Haven't played any other MP games except TF2 and that came out too long ago.

Most anticipated game: Cyberpunk 2077.

There are so many red flags around this that my anticipation has been massively dimmed, but it says a lot that it's still my number one anticipated game for 2020. If it follows through on its promise it might be revolutionary in a way we haven't seen since GTA 3

GRcade Game of the Year 2019:

Best audio: Sayonara Wild Hearts
(actually Tangle Tower for its voice acting but nobody else will vote for this)
Best multiplayer: Pokémon Sword/Shield (slim pickings)
Most anticipated game: Breath of the Wild 2
Game of the year: Untitled Goose Game

I’d do comments if I thought anybody would read them.

The RE Engine is a gift.

Normally I’m an advocate for keeping categories slimmed down but it’s a shame this year not to be able to give something to Control or Sekiro.

Visually Astral Chain looks really cool but not actually played it. So it'd feel weird voting for it and I can't completely be sure on it.

GRcade Game of the Year 2019: Yakuza Kiwami 2

I don't think I've played anything released this year, so shoeing in Yakuza as much as possible as Kiwami 2 came out on PC this year. If the RE2 remake is eligible then so is this.

These votes are all over the place, mine included - I think the winners are going to be close and without much consensus!

Best visuals: River City Girls
Best audio: River City Girls
Best multiplayer: Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
Most anticipated game: The Last of Us Part II
GRcade Game of the Year 2019: Death Stranding

Best visuals and best audio: River City Girls

The quality and quantity of hand-drawn animation in this game is immense, it can't have come cheap (and is probably why Stay Cool, Kobayashi-San, one of the other two River City Ransom games released this year, seemingly suffered from no budget whatsoever). It has to be seen in motion to be fully appreciated.

The cel animation and animated manga cutscenes are wonderful, and you can hear the excellent english voice acting here too (only watch the start if you don't want spoilers):

All of the pixel art is great, but the character animations in particular are sublime (skip ahead a little into the different attack animations and combos for the real good stuff, like rainbow-dabbing):

The soundtrack is extremely good throughout, here is my favourite vocal track:
