Is counters strike one of the games in this competition? any of them it doesn't matter to me.

edit - I don't understand how this works, do contestants just play different games against each other, what If you don't have the game in question for a particular challenge.?

Every challenge is about gaming, but might not neccessarily involve actual physical gaming. The contest covers playing games, writing about them, gaming general knowledge and knowhow of the industry, tactical play and gamesmanship.

Thank you plastic!

Now if only some of those other people who said they were putting in an application did we'd be golden...

Less then 72 hours to get yours in - if we don't have 20 applications in by then, the contest doesn't run so get them in!

Only about halfway to that figure at that moment. If people who said they were outright auditioning would we'd be very close to the figure - and if everyone who said they were considering it did, we'd be over that figure - but I'll be honest, I've had to do a fair bit of drumming up support.

Issue for me is at the moment because I don't know WHO is applying and who isn't - its hard to know whether we need more newbies of more regulars. That said, despite the frustration on my part getting volume in, the ones I have got are very good - and if we do get to the golden figure its highly likely those people who have applied will get in.

The fourth season of the competition was by far the toughest and roughest terrain the competition has passed through. It wasn't pretty and its not something I like going back to - but it is part of the contests history, so we should look over it.

The Gamesradar Games Guru Competition in its third series was hugely successful, and doubled the views of the last contest. However with the growing views, it was hard to see how the contest could continue to grow and evolve into what at that time I wanted it to be - especially with the restrictions that the old Gamesradar forums had. At around the same time Press Start Online was building with many of the past contestants including Eighthours and Hero Of Canton, and I pitched the idea of bringing the contest to their site in return for bulding into something much bigger and being part of Press Start Online. We agreed and work began to make the contest bigger then ever.

For the first time the contest could have multiple topics in a dedicated forum, could invite more players then ever and would get more views then ever. The format was based on the World Cup - and thus 32 players would get to qualify. An incredible 50 plus players entered qualifying for the tournament - and we'll get to that in a moment.

However, behind the scenes it was all going horribly wrong. A bit of a misunderstanding had occurred and where as I had come to build my game and build something great and be a big part of Press Start Online, that wasn't the same view as the people running the site. They saw the competition as a way to get traffic and lots of new members but not much more then that. To put it succinctly, they weren't taking in very seriously. This all came to a head when a magazine was to be produced, and when I asked for a page to involved Games Guru I was largely laughed at and rounded on. Was I not part of Press Start Online? Apparently not. This at the time was like a red rag to a bull and I threw my toys out the pram. However, to this day - the way I was treated and almost bullied by some of the people on that site was both unprofessional and disgusting. However since then I have made up with the important people such as Eighthours and Hero Of Canton, and now we have mutual respect for one another, but the experience truly was utterly awful. They saw it like I was jeopardising some big break for them, but I felt exactly the same about them to me. Hindsight is a funny thing, and I should have behaved less emotionally on the topic, but I was younger then - and some of the vitriol was hard to take. As I said - it ain't pretty.

In the meanwhile, a contest did actually take place! And its a shame that the former did overshadow some of it, because it was a doozy. The contest started with contraversy when Simtaz who had drawn Eighthours in qualifying - cheated by posting for answers on a Dutch website. He was discovered and banned from the contest, giving Eighty a route through to the main contest.

So many great people made their debut in this competition, Devlin, Wiper, Parksey, Dalagonash, Drumstick and Dominant Seventh all made their debuts. Glaringly missing however was invincible who had refused to return to try and win back his title. The players were split into groups of four, with one 'Group of Death' was containing Drumstick, Cora, Hero of Canton and Dala. Even then Eighthours, Parkreiner, rinks and Parksey were also all in one group. Ouch. Falcon would also fall at the first hurdle, failing to defend his title - his points placing him 31st out of 32 competitiors.

As the competition progressed - Raze and rinks started to rise to the fore as did newbie Dominant Seventh and a suprise package in a returning Omo. Eighthours was still involved despite argy bargy behind the scenes and resident GRCade android HSH. In the now infamous Apprentice task - a team of Raze, Omo, Wiper and mad_dwarfer also returning. Eighthours and HSH were voted off, and Dominant Seventh survived - but would go out next task alongside rinks.

In the final - Omo failed to turn up, so rinks replaced him as a last minute substitute. mad_dwarfer was the suprise package, Wiper the hot newbie, and Raze - the big big favourite. The odds were stacked in his favour until rinks came into the arena, and sure enough the final would be between the two of them for the title. In the end in fairly convincing fashion - Raze lifted the title for the most popular winner to that point, finally resting the ghost of the great Blockbusters battle with Vince.

PSO was dead as a prospect, and with tail firmly between legs, the fifth contest would take 18 months off before returning to GR...

Yeah some of the groups in IV were pretty sickening.

Does anyone have a link to the 'walk the dog' game which served as one of the tasks?

Just played a round myself and got an unacceptable 24 under par. I think my best was pushing -50.

I still don't know how you got like 100k or whatever it was. I was happy to manage about half of that.

Between you, myself and Dally we crushed those games. 8-)
