'The GRCade Games Guru Competiton IX'

Good to hear you are all beavering away - I am looking forward to checking out these entries.

The inspiration for this task was my new found hobby in the last year and a bit of board games, I always liked them - collected them as a kid, now I have about 20 new indie board games - after finding Catan for 99p in a charity shop. I like checking out the game mechanics mostly! I bought three board games in London recently, and still have only played one of them. :fp:

Also, I'd like to think that I have some knowledge to judge this task, I have had people come in front of me and pitch gameshow formats which I had to suggest changes and alterations to, some of these at executive level. I'd like to think I know what I'm talking about to a certain extent.

I also would like to get some board games. Definitely gonna get that Street Fighter themed Monopoly when it comes out. I'd quite like to get that Zombies! game too. What other game themed board games are out there then? I want some now. The Mrs and I only have Scrabble at the minute.

Theres a Resident Evil collectible card game, an Angry Birds card game and one of the biggest releases this year is an X-Wing vs Tie-Fighter game. This isn't counting the countless videogame inspired board games such as Gauntlet-a-like 'Super Dungeon Explore' and SF-inspired 'Yomi'.

Everytime this contest comes around I hate the fact I have a full time job.

I've got the setting, the board and everything sorted, now to make the rules.

I don't believe this. I've got this fantastic idea but my whole "goal" doesn't work out as easy as I'd planned it to. It's a bit too confusing so I need to tweak it a bit to get it to work.

Pandemic is a great board game if people are looking for ones to play.

I'm currently on the train home typing things up. Had a few bumpy issues, but hopefully sometime Saturday I can print off some cards for the submission.

Think I'm pretty much done now. Just gotta do some proof reading and some little bits. Will probably be able to submit my entry tomorrow.

I've lucky that this task fell so that I could go to London to see my partner, then that it finishes a few hours before I start my new job!

I really can't wait to see everyone elses entries. Think there will be some amazing ones in there.

Stuff that you won't find in an Argos catalogue. Watch a couple of episodes of Shut Up & Sit Down to see the kind of thing he's talking about (and also to find out what Quinns does after RPS).

Just managed to get a large chunk of the rules down in words. It looks a lot more complicated than it actually is all written out. I worry it may confuse people... :shifty:

Yeah, complexity is my big issue at the moment. Sure, everything makes sense to me....but will it to someone picking up a board game for the first time in a while?

Still just the one submission in so far - I'd really like to see more!
