Assuming you have a pre-existing Google account and are logged in, on the map page linked on the first page, scroll to the top of the list on the left and click 'Edit' in the top right corner, then three buttons should appear on the map itself in its top left corner. Hit the blue marker and click where you are and add your name to the box that appears.

Firstly, hopefully no-one has put the marker exactly where the their house is, more just on the right street and secondly they'd need to know what said forumite looks like.
