The GRcade MK8D TT Championship - Week 5 - Ribbon Road (GBA)

The ghost is a bit of a pushover on this one.

Happy with 3rd as I was getting a bit frustrated toward the end if toad Harbour.

Looking forward to trying out rainbow road!

Thankfully this course isn't that annoying to get around.

My first completed run was a high 1:02 which was still good enough to beat the staff ghost by 6 seconds.

Haven't started this yet...but based on the other two circuits I get the feeling by Thursday I'm going to end up kind of hating my favourite track.....

Do you have the switch online pass? You could download our ghosts and race them?

We could also try to be a bit more collaborative with sharing tips etc?

I don't have online so can't upload ghosts... But I could try and video my ghost or something and stick it on a private YT link.

Edit - it would probably also help to share your character/kart combo.

Something I've noticed is that you've gotta get an orange mini-turbo where you can. Each one of those is worth like 0.4 of a second over a blue mini-turbo. I wiggle the control stick a lot when drifting to get into orange quicker.

Rainbow Road N64 one of my least favourite tracks. Gave it a shot, not sure if I'll get a better time than what I've got. Will see if I have time for it next week

I've made sure to get the orange boosts yes. There's a purple level boost too that I found by accident when I crashed at the first corner. I could only trigger it by taking a really tight and long turn so I'm not sure how you activate that on any of the turns.

Has to be long turn to get the purple one. What character/kart combo are you using?

For the first course I used the biddybuggy because of its superior cornering, but favoured the wiggler on TH for its extra speed (and the lack of tight cornering on that level).

Give this course a go before you give up. There's not much to this one beyond tight cornering so you won't be 4 seconds behind, plus a lot of purple boosts. Aim for a 1.03/1.02.

Also can you upload your replays of the past two levels? We can have a look and point out where you're losing time.

Don't think I'm going to be able to get much lower than the time I submitted already so think I'll give myself a break and leave it there for the week.

Sometimes it's more optimal to not get the best coloured boost you can for the sake of better positioning for the next drift.

Afaik, you'll reach coloured boosts quicker the more you drift inward. Ergo, as Drummy mentioned, you can 'wiggle the stick', drifting inward to get coloured boosts quicker, then drifting back outward to counter the bad positioning drifting inward too much can put you into.

I knocked about half a second off my attempts from last night and think that's as quick as I'm getting.

I beat the ghost and then never touched it again. 8-)

I think I might take that approach from here on out tbh, and just use the as an excuse to finally beat all the staff ghosts. I find it too stressful trying to get my time lower.
