It's not their entire point. They are also closer to the shop to make it easier to get to and from the car with small children in tow.

Exactly, like I say above there are plenty of reasons why the scenario is more challenging for someone with one or more kids who likely don't want to be there!

To cross post:

Cuttooth wrote:I'm in the minority here I think but parking in a space designated to help people just comes across as entitled to me, even if it's unlikely to do any harm in specific situations. It's not like an equivalent space on public transport where someone can actively give up their seat if they realise someone more in need of it than them gets on. You're just making a gamble on the situation, whose consequences those people have to put up with if you're wrong.

I also drive an Audi so it's my legal right to park where I like.

Parent and child spaces are often bigger to allow easier access to child seats etc.

You shouldn't park in them if you're not sprogged up in my opinion.

I once got a lift home off a colleague and he needed to go to the vet to pick up a prescription. He parked in a disabled space "because he'd only be a couple of minutes", but obviously he left me in the car, so I was sat there in this illegally parked car trying not to look like banana split of the decade. Felt so strawberry floating awkward :dread:

If it's in the evening surely there are open spaces nearer to the entrance also???

I once, ONCE parked in a disabled space running into a small hardware store to get L plates as I was late for my driving test (it's a long story), I was in the space for under a minute (really it took seconds) and as I did so a woman helping her dad out of car to put into a wheel chair shouted at me, I told her I would be fast and I was back while she was still helping, I apologized like several times but felt so ashamed, it's stuck with me for years.

As I said in the other thread, I wouldn’t do it myself but I certainly wouldn’t have the iron stones to confront someone I saw doing it. I’m not a parent, and I’m not disabled so I accept that I need to walk a few extra feet to get to the shop.

Wouldn't the evening be more likely that the family spaces will be needed as the children would normally be in school in the day?

7 dicks heads so far, eh?

I think Peter Kay said he parks in them when he takes his mum shopping.

Do you even need the child to be with you? Cos I have one of them now, can I park there whenever?

The age limit is almost always 12.

They're called parent and child spaces, I think the kid being there is a prerequisite.

Thought I'd be interested to see how that discussion plays out. "Don't worry, I've got kids! I'm allowed!"

As opposed to all those parent OR child spaces I see two years olds driving into whenever I'm at the shops.
