It's not their entire point. They are also closer to the shop to make it easier to get to and from the car with small children in tow.

Exactly, like I say above there are plenty of reasons why the scenario is more challenging for someone with one or more kids who likely don't want to be there!

Parent and child spaces are often bigger to allow easier access to child seats etc.

You shouldn't park in them if you're not sprogged up in my opinion.

I once got a lift home off a colleague and he needed to go to the vet to pick up a prescription. He parked in a disabled space "because he'd only be a couple of minutes", but obviously he left me in the car, so I was sat there in this illegally parked car trying not to look like banana split of the decade. Felt so strawberry floating awkward :dread:

If it's in the evening surely there are open spaces nearer to the entrance also???

I once, ONCE parked in a disabled space running into a small hardware store to get L plates as I was late for my driving test (it's a long story), I was in the space for under a minute (really it took seconds) and as I did so a woman helping her dad out of car to put into a wheel chair shouted at me, I told her I would be fast and I was back while she was still helping, I apologized like several times but felt so ashamed, it's stuck with me for years.

As I said in the other thread, I wouldn’t do it myself but I certainly wouldn’t have the iron stones to confront someone I saw doing it. I’m not a parent, and I’m not disabled so I accept that I need to walk a few extra feet to get to the shop.

Wouldn't the evening be more likely that the family spaces will be needed as the children would normally be in school in the day?
