Not sure if deserves its own thread, but What are people's thought regarding the Harry Dunn Case?

The woman accused of killing Harry Dunn was working for a US intelligence agency at the time of the crash, a court has heard.

Mr Dunn, 19, died when his motorbike was in a crash with a car near RAF Croughton in Northamptonshire in 2019.

Suspect Anne Sacoolas returned to the US, claiming diplomatic immunity, and an extradition request was blocked.

I'm slighty torn. Part of me thinks she should be extradited and sent to the UK for Trial. Another part of me thinks this was a tragic accident and locking up a mother and ruining more lives achieves little.

I would assume this woman is already suffering with what she did, but then again is this Justice (I had a close friend go through similar so have mixed emotions about all of this)

The more I think about it the more I think the US should respect the Extradition agreement. Seems strange to me that they can just refuse what I assume to be a legal matter

The US should honour the extradition agreement but they don’t tend to do that, especially with diplomats of any sort. They can point to various precedents like the Gary MacKinnon case to get around it too. Personally I think it’s reprehensible not to send her back over here.

She says she scarpered because she didn't think she'd get a fair trial. What a load of bollocks. Also, my guess is that the US would be happy to hand her over but the our lot can't stomach whatever the US would want in return. Special relationship lol

She should be extradited and face a trial. While it was a tragic accident, she was driving dangerously (on the wrong side of the road) and Harry's family deserve justice.

I can understand diplomatic immunity and why it exists.

But it doesn't apply to this woman.

She should be extradited and go to trial. It's then up to the courts to decide if she is guilty* and what punishment she should receive.

*The fact that she fled the country screams of her being guilty as hell though.

I'm not sure what there is to be torn about. She drove dangerously resulting in someone's death, she should absolutely face trial for that.

Nailed it.

It was reported last week that Biden has agreed with Trumps decision and will not intervene to extradite her.

It’s not going to happen unfortunately unless she volunteered to do it.

Umm... not sure 'I'm a mother' is much defence. It achieves justice for the victim and his family.

The priority should be prevention of this happening again. Unfortunately it seems diplomatic immunity is often abused with the foreknowledge of operating with impunity - just read through the wikipedia section on its abuse. Things like this are, unfortunately, not an isolated case. I would suspect that successful prosecutions and the possibility of being held to account would help deter future crimes, even if this specific incident sounds more tragic than premeditated.

I wouldn't expect much cooperation from the US though - they won't even pay the congestion charge

is a messy legal system to get around but she should be held accountable for her actions in some form either in the USA or get transferred back here and face the consequences

Yeah I'm with the consensus, she should face trial for the result of her actions

I've kind of lost track of where this case has gone and some of the details of it, but I don't think you should be able to kill someone - accidentally or not - and face absolutely no consequences for your actions. It's no surprise that the US is being evasive in 'doing the right thing' though.

Person with higher position in our society gets away with awful crime

Why is anyone surprised, this is how it has always been.

I didn't really follow the case because it was so obvious this was going to happen. My understanding is that UK officials asked her to leave the country and haven't really tried to get her back here, everything that has been done is basically a show to try and keep the public on side.

If this was any one else, they would've had to answer for their actions, but due to legal loop holes and a person of power she gets away with it.

She should be extradited. They will probably take her kids into consideration if they sentence. But really, she killed someone, and she's avoided any kind of repercussions of this.
