Really sad they don't consider the health of people who graft their bits off for them until they get poorly. I think the publisher needs to take into account their workers being afraid of taking a break, and so making them take one while at the same time reassuring them of their slot in the magazines.

In Japan? Good luck with that.

Tried the first two episodes of Shaman King on Netflix. Could not ask for more basic shonen archetypes. Didn't care for the art either, especially not for the the short nerd. Won't be continuing with it to fill the Haikyu-shaped void in my life.

Oda is a really bad example given he never wants to take breaks, they just force him to.

Latest few chapters of One Punch Man have just been ridiculous. :datass:

With the latest chapters of One Piece:

I really like the idea of Wano's plant life regrowing as a result of Green Bull fighting. We've already seen admirals completely change an island before but not in a useful way.

If this schedule is correct then I'm surprised Oda has been able to keep the pace for 25 years. Seems like a work life balance that would lead to an early grave.

He's a workaholic and he loves OnePiece so much that it doesn't really count as work to him. He's wanted to draw it since he was a kid so I think even now he's just excited and wants to keep drawing.

Just watched the first two episodes of Bastard!! Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy on Netflix.

WTF is this gooseberry fool?

Its like a poor attempt at a dodgy early 90's 'video nasty' anime, complete with female characters with ridiculously oversized breasts and inexplicable fanservice in the end credits, one of the central plot points is also a little on the creepy side A assumigly late teens/almost adult girl has to kiss a preteen boy on the lips to resurrect a dark wizard (he becomes a ridiculously tall, musclely demon man) to fight on her behalf, she has to do the same to return him to a child again - there's definite sexual tension there as well which is just too uncomfortable to watch when she's basically like his adoptive mother

I remember trying to read the manga for that years ago and didn't get very far either.

There were a lot of similar series in the late 80's/early 90's but it is considered a classic of the genre by many.

I think I'm done with it after four episodes, its just gotten a bit too much with the sexual threats against women Yoko essentially getting almost raped by a slime monster while a group of guys watch, it's just not right.

Actually surpriesed Netflix are showing it as its not subtle about it at all, It'd probably be fairly watchable without the borderline hentai scenes.

4 eps? Bloody hell. I was done with 1 1/2. And if it's considered a classic then I would hate to see a bad example of the genre.

Question: Celestial Dragons in One Piece, and the rich people who donate to Hero Association in OPM, are they based on a specific Japanese allegory?

EDIT: WTF? OPM c99, p22-23 weirdness/spoiler:

I have experienced worse when I first started watching anime, watched part of Urotsokidoji without knowing what it was (I hadn't heard of hentai at this point).

Some things cannot be unseen.

Oh aye, there's no doubt worse, but this having money and Netflix push pumped into it somehow elevates its worseness in my eyes.

It kind of is isn't it.

I definitely didn't think it''d go in some of the directions it does, even though the trailer does show one of the main female character wearing very little in a very suggestive position .

There's even a scene where the same character is getting sexually aroused by the way the male lead (in dark wizard form) is carrying her on his shoulders (with him then doing it even more making her groan off camera)

I'm assuming someone just saw the first episode before greenlighting it.

No but I think I need to watch it now, if only just to purify my mind.

Apparently that's how some b / straight-to-video movies get picked up - producers will front load the first 15-30 mins or so with all the interesting stuff because that's all the publishers (?) watch.

One-Punch Man comes off like a writing exercise in how to eventually make your job incredibly hard for yourself, and then how to write yourself out of the difficult position. The traditional manga succeeds at that (I haven't read the web comic version) but I'm still far more interested in Saitama (and Garou) than S-class heroes fighting. Love the politics of the Hero Association when it shows up though.
