Holy gooseberry fool Unicorn starts off strong.

EDIT: Up to episode 8 and something just blew my strawberry floating mind.

It's being reported that the author of Berserk Kentaro Miura has passed away. Absolutely gutted.

The only consolation is that Berserk ended on a somewhat OK note. People kept joking about it never ending, but at least we got to the end of an arc and things are relatively happy, all things considered.

Really gutted by this, had absolutely nothing but respect for the man and his work.

RIP Miura, he was one of the best at what he did.

Well that's horrible news that I wasn't expecting to read. Way worse than most celebrity deaths.

I've said for years that the mangaka of One Piece, Berserk and Hunter x Hunter dying before they could finish their work wouldn't surprise me.

Time to play Berserk / Guts soundtrack all day.

I’ve never read any of Berserk before this so I bought a volume to give it a go and, yeah, even just a few dozen pages in there is some serious amount of imagery here that looks so familiar. I imagine as I keep reading I’m just going to realise the influence he had on more and more stuff I’ve had exposure to.

I'd actually recommend the 1990s anime as the first starting point for Berserk. The manga is amazing but the anime is done so well that you'll probably rewatch a few times in addition to reading the manga from start to the latest chapter (was about to write finish).

It's also one of the rare examples where the dub actually holds up well against the sub.

Not sure it belongs here as its technically not 100% Japanese (American author/artist but made by mostly Japanese team) but I've been watching Cannon Busters on Netflix and its surprisingly good, has a very 90's nostalgic feel to it even though there's some obvious CG stuff going on.

One Piece 1015: TCB Scans tweet summed it up perfectly: You gotta appreciate how One Piece is a story where a chef carrying a mummified injured crewmate can kick a brachiosaurus in the head, spinning him in a pinwheel that deflects a volley of candy arrows of a 50 year old candylicker that still lives at his mom's home.

Just started Mob Psycho 100, its a little bit odd to say the least.

Not entirely sold on the art style but the first episode was good enough to make me want to see more so I'll keep watching it.

+1 to that. Had it been on Netflix I'd be on my 100th viewing of it.
