Neon Genesis Evangelion is up on Netflix today.

So I just watched ep 1 of the new dub.

I can't say it's terrible, but I can't really call it good either. Most of the Voice Actors are 'Ok' at best, though Shinji's definitely doesn't fit at all.
Whilst most of the time the quality hovers around ok, at times it almost sounded like a fan dub, especially Misato introducing Shinji to Ritsuko as "he's the third children" rather than third child.
The original dub was, so far, absolutely better.

Also the ending theme has been changed apparently because Netflix wouldn't pay for the rights to Fly me to the Moon.

I'm glad I've never seen the original version so I can completely ignore all the tedious dub debate stuff. The ResetEra thread is a mess.

OPM S2 EP9 - King with the truths. Preach! Episode even got a chuckle from me. And it's good seeing the show finally tackling things Saitama thought in ep 1 in s1!

Never really liked Mech Anime. Didn't like Evangelion, or Gundam, or Pat Labour or many more. I did however really like Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Eureka Seven.

they changed a lot of lines and thus destroyed multiple layers of subtext of one of the most important character relationships in the show
i would say that calling shinji and kaworu purely a romantic homosexual relationship oversimplifies it, but yeah netflix really strawberry floated up

The dub and subs are actually pretty different. I'm watching it with both and marvelling at how strawberry floating diverse their interpretations are.

EDIT: I'm really enjoying it so far. I have a very limited tolerance for anime 'ticks' (the constant repetition of characters' names as a "shocked" response, "Uh?!" and "Ah?" filling a similar role, the massive objectification of female bodies) but this feels different. There's a gooseberry fool load of issues (I mean there's a strawberry floating inflation episode ffs) but the story is a really interesting look at depression and self-worth that's making most of it worth it. It's also strawberry floating gorgeous, which helps.

I've decided to give this a go after avoiding it for so long as it just always seemed like the archetypal angsty 14 year old doesn't like his dad anime.

We'll see how it compares to the Michael Bay version...
