Is it just me, or does One Piece's animation quality jump way up immediately after the Skypiea arc? Everything is way more expressive and fluid. Did they change art directors or something?

Finished Komi Can't Communicate S1, surprised by how much I enjoyed this.

Last two episodes were far less 'awkward' than I thought they'd be The class doing a maid cafe for the festival was less creepy than I feared it would be, Tadano cross dressing to make Komi feel more comfortable dressed as a maid was a nice touch, both Komi's mum and Tadano's sisters reactions to seeing him like that

You're in for one hell of a ride. Berserk makes you feel almost every emotion at one point or another.

You might enjoy Kaguya-sama now that you've made it through the first season of Komi Can't Communicate.

I saw The Golden Age Arc films ages ago. How much of the manga have I "spoiled" for myself?

Like a quarter to a third of it, honestly. It's a huge arc, but I dunno how much it actually covers over it.

Met's right that it's about a third of story, but I wouldn't worry about it. I haven't actually ever seen an adaptation of berserk, but the manga is really that great that it's worth experiencing even if you already know what happens. I think there's stuff that just can't really be translated over to a cartoon that helps make the manga what it is.

Thanks to you both.

I guess it could have been worse  I'm still going to read it every night, but I was just curious to see how much of the manga it covered.

It's a relentlessly paced set of movies.

The late 1990s anime has much less fluid animation but is by far the better adaption. I'd generally recommend everyone watches the anime (starting on episode 2, episode 1 should be watched last).

Then swap to the 1st chapter of the manga.

Yeah. I assumed it was an abridged adaptation.

The anime you recommend, is that the one with the infamously jank animation?

I've never understood the love for the 1997 anime. While it is better than the recent 2016/17 CGI continuation it still skips and changes things and pales in comparison to the beautifully illustrated manga.

Then again I've noticed I am quite harsh on adaptations of series I love. :shifty:

I'll check the anime out but not at the expense of skipping anything in the manga.

To me Berserk is like Watchmen, it's so perfect within the medium it exists in that even the best adaptation would lose something in translation. This is largely due to Miura's (RIP) skill as an artist, as it would not be practical to replicate something as beautiful in animation. But even then it's stuff like page turns, page composition, and double page spreads which don't mean much in film type media.

A MARRIAGE!

Love how the openings credits ends and Shirogane is still yelling KAWAII! in his head.

The Chika dance has such smooth animation *chefs kiss*

I'm glad you're enjoying it, so many hilarious moments to come.

It really would require a top-tier studio, director and an immense budget to even stand a chance at doing the series justice and I don't see that ever happening.

As far as I'm concerned it's the best rom-com of the past decade. Season 3 will be starting soon so it's the perfect time to jump in.
