Saint of Killers wrote:Still reading that opening 3 volume One Piece compilation. Is there any significance to chapter 12? (Just after Zolo escapes with Lufi in the cage.) I ask because up to that point there'd been no shading used – skin tones were the same colour as the paper. But the opening of 12 (someone on a lion) looks markedly different and better. So I flipped through the rest of the book hoping the style remained the same, only to see it go back to the no shading style. So yeah, any reason behind that change?

It will have been a special full colour chapter when it was first published in Shonen Jump, they just printed it in B&W for later printings.

I hated what was done with Joseph in Part 4 with the cheating on Suzie Q and having an illegitimate child bullshit.

Just seemed completely and utterly out of character for absolutely no reason.

Totally agree, Part 4 retroactively ruined the character for me. Part 2 Josephmight have been a perv and a Jack the Lad type, but Part 4 turned him into a complete gooseberry fool heel.

In unrelated news, One Piece's 2nd opening is garbage. Can't believe I have to sit through this for another 65 episodes.

Hating on my boy Joseph for being weak to the b-berry puriti bae that is Tomoko Higashikata. I mean, he thirsted after his own mother too so it's kinda to be expected.

I must admit it annoyed me at first too though, but then we wouldn't have second best JoJo in Josuke if he didn't creep about.

Sorry about this spoiler minefield, SoK.

To be fair he was my #1 JoJo until midway through Part VIII when Gappy started kicking ass the old fashioned way without his Stand.

Honestly, I could never really get on with Josuke. I liked Koichi as a character way more, he actually underwent some development.

Though what Part 4 did to Joseph pretty much soured me on it entirely. Saying "He thirsted after his own mother" doesn't really fly, since he had no idea Lisa Lisa was his mother, plus she looked way younger than his mother should be expected to.

Plus a lack of Speedwagon is a massive detraction.

JoJo Stardust Crusade: Off to a rocky start as I'm not hugely enamoured with new lead, nor the new Stand powers. But I'll obviously keep watching in the hopes to be won over again.

Are you referring to Stardust Crusaders? If so, I'll sure you'll warm to it, as I did. The change in direction with Hamon/Stand powers is for the best, as the former had quite a limited scope, whereas the latter allows for a much broader range of scenarios.

As for the cast, I didn't much like the lead, but the rest of the cast makes up for them.

When I was first reading JoJo around 13 or 14 years ago I have to admit that I was put off for a lot of Part III after absolutely adoring Part I and II (I actually stopped reading for a while :shifty:). The early monster-of-the-week Stand battles, never really liking Jotaro as the main JoJo and the really poor quality of scans/translations made it a slog but thankfully it improved massively as Araki introduces more interesting Stands and by the time you're close to the end it's a real joy... that final arc. :datass:

The Part III anime was a lot easier to get through and Part IV onwards has been nigh on perfect.
