Cheers for the recommendations guys, I'll be sure to check them all out.

I love No Game No Life as well, I really liked the art style, and use of color in the show. Does anyone know what the hell happened with it? I remember hearing some accusations that the author, or illustrator was stealing other peoples art or something for the manga.

Started watching Cowboy Bebop the other day and it's been great so far, the music is excellent. Also taken my first foray into the world of manga with a collection of Junji Ito short stories plus Gyo (seriously, :dread:), as well as reading the first five volumes of Monster by Naoki Urasawa which has me hooked.

@Rightey, and anyone else looking for reccomendations really haha

I'm a really big fan of Log Horizon but I know it can be a bit marmite. Just don't go in expecting an action show and I expect you'll really enjoy it. It's sort of a slower burning show with lots of plotting and intrigue but it all builds up to several huge pagoffs at various points throughout the series.

It also has by far the best understanding and implementation of MMO mechanics of any Issekai and uses that to good effect by making a show where the characters are actually trapped in an video game, not just trapped in a general fantasy land with health bars.

If you've ever played MMOs or high fantasy type games before then I would definitely reccomend it. Genuinely made me nostalgic at a few points as it just knows the type of people who enjoy playing video games and how they would act if a large group of them became trapped in their favourite video game franchise.

Excellent, excellent. Ta for the info. I'll just hold off until the whole season is up, hopefully they'll have added the dub in by then.

Didn't even know this was airing already, thanks for the heads up!

FLCL is probably my favourite anime of all time, yet if someone asked me why I would probably be unable to answer why in any clear manner.

Also, has anyone else seen the trailer for this new Crunchy Roll show?

How do you seemingly get it so wrong. Imagine being there in the meeting when they came up with this.

"So who is our target audience"
"Hmm... Seems like it's 100% people who like anime"
"Hmmmmm.... Well based on that, seems like the logical thing to do is make a show that isn't an anime at all."

I think it looks cool, and I'll definitely give it a watch, but I agree it's not an anime (it's not even an """anime""" like RWBY). It's firmly in the western illustration & animation tradition, though the anime-influenced branch that contains things like Steven Universe. In fact it reminds me a bit of Mary Cagle's Sleepless Domain webcomic.

Watched Toradora and liked it, but I dunno reading about the light novels it seems that Taiga seemed to change more, or it shows the changes better than the anime.

Didn't think Toradora would be your thing, Pedz! It's a good show, glad you enjoyed it. I'm a fan, though a couple of the more dramatic scenes were laid on a bit thick for my personal taste.

I honestly don't think the trailer gave us enough info for me to decide if it actually looked good or not. All we really know is 4 girls attending a magical school. The visuals look bright and cheery, but personally I'm just not a fan of the whole noodly armed very simple character designs. I'd say they remind me more of Adventure Time, which while I liked the story of, overall I disliked just because of how jarring the combination of dark plot and super cutsy art style is.

Toradora was a great show, a pretty good mix of comedy and plot developments. Familiar of Zero is similar in that the main characters are basically copies of each other right down to the voice actor, but is set in a fantasy setting, while being a bit lighter on plot.

Also, I just finished re: Zero, overall pretty good. Probably the strongest story line of any of these transported to another world shows I've seen so far, it did a good job with pacing, but man I can imagine it would have been annoying watching it as it aired always waiting for that next episode. Also I never understood why people liked Rem so much until she gives that speech about how she imagines her life.

   ep 11 of Mob Psycho 100. Actual tears.

Most of this mini-arc hasn't been all that good but it's really picked up now.

Oh yeah totally, when I said I thought it looked cool that's what I meant - I like the art style and the premise appeals to me - not that I'd made any judgements about its quality.

Crunchyroll have done something like this before - they were pretty heavily involved with creating Urahara, and they also kind of emphasised that it was made by a younger-and-more-female team (though that was still a proper anime made in Japan!), which I think mirrors how they're pushing High Guardian Spice - and despite its detractors I thought Urahara was pretty good.

I like the art style of this High Spice Guardian. I'm not really bothered that it doesn't look too 'anime', but at the same time it's not the most un-anime looking anime-influenced show I've seen. Not to mention that there are actual anime that go against traditional anime design - like (for the most part) Panty & Stocking, which draws heavy influence from Western animation, and it's great. Aggretsuko seems that way as well - haven't watched it myself, but I've heard that's also very good.

However, I'm not necessarily giving it a thumbs-up.

We don't know what the show will be like in motion yet, or what the writing will be like. Looking up the people involved, a few of them have a decent-looking portfolio, but it's not enough for me to make a judgement on whether or not I'll think this'll be good. As of right now I don't have any real expectations.

Seems like Crunchyroll are getting flak for prioritising something like this over improving their service/getting more shows, but cba going into that and I'm not really bothered myself. I've been subscribed to CR a few times in the past, but not for a long time now since I personally don't think it's worth it.
