Is the Akira manga worth reading? Despite its legacy in the medium, I feel like I hear fairly mixed responses when it comes to actually going through the content. I'm umming and ahing over whether to pick up the 35th Anniversary box set for £90.

I enjoyed the film, for what that's worth.

It's definitely worth reading. The movie skips plenty of details and some characters that appear briefly actually have a role in the manga.

If it was me I'd read a few pages of the scans before dropping £90+ on a manga though.

I watched it sometime last year and thought it was brilliant.

Also, Winry  Edward is a moron for not wifing her up

Watched the last stretch of Evangelion episodes last night for the first time.

That sure was something. I'm not sure what.

Started watching Seven Deadly Sins the other day and while I'm enjoying it so far there's one thing that I'm having an issue with, the semi frequent blatant sexual harassment of the female lead character by the character Meliodas, its not too bad at first as it's more horny teenager perving over sexy female friend than anything sinister but there's been a couple of scenes where he's actually groped her and she's just allowed it to happen and I think that is problematic for several reasons. I think it's meant as a bit of 'Carry On' style humour which seems common in a lot of anime but I think it's a little ill advised in the post #metoo climate of today.

It gets worse. I can only think of one female character who isn't randomly groped at some point and it seems that the only way the author can display affection is by having a character bury their head in cleavage.

There are some legitimately good arcs but there are at least one or two pages each chapter that just make me cringe.

I've just seen an episode where Meliodas got placed in Diane's gigantic cleavage  but that's not quite as cringe worthy as the scene where he groped Elizabeth's arse and stole her underwear, the guy is a genuine sex pestt.

Japan eh :fp:

I don't think I'd carry on watching it if it wasn't animated but as an adult who is fully capable of distinguishing between fiction and reality I can overlook the flagrant disregard for equality but I don't think it' sets a good example for younger (teen) viewers who might see the objectification of women as being acceptable in the real world..

There is going to be a 4th (3rd actually, Netflix consider the 4 OVA episodes to be season 2) but apparently we won't be seeing it until at least this time next year.

:x

I'm on the last 2 eps of S1 atm and its been brilliant (aside from the groping) and I have to say Merlin is smoking hot, but for christs sake woman, you'll get pneumonia wearing that outfit

Dr. Stone is pretty good isn't it?

Watching the show made me start reading the manga, I give it a thumbs up.

Dr. Stone and Kimetsu no Yaiba are the two series I most look forward to reading in Jump each week.

Some artists/authors struggle to get one series out each week and that madman Boichi now has 2 running in Jump as the Dr. Stone spinoff just started.

Netflix added Broly. With no English dub (which is fine) but also no subs :? Thanks, I guess?

Broly finally has English subs :toot: It didn't really need them as, you know, it's hardly the most complex of shows  but it still added to the enjoyment.

Finally getting used to a lack dub on Saiki K :( but the last few connected eps have been meh. (Fake news; new student who's pretty; and new student who has powers. MEH!)

Trying to give Death Note another chance and Jesus it's become *even more* convoluted! I think this is a show that would definitely work better with a dub.

Death Note's dub has a few goofy moments (and eat it...), but it's serviceable enough. Certainly worth a try if you're struggling with it.

I'm watching it on Netflix and they only have subs. CBA watching it on PC as I'm not invested in it enough to not be sat on something comfy while trying to keep track of every new bonkers development.

I could have sworn Netflix had a dub available previously when my mother was watching it a couple of years ago.

Latest Kaguya chapter has given me diabetes... it's just the cutest, most flufftastic thing.

I was pretty sure it had a English dub as well, but when I looked the other day it only had Japanese and... Polish  Good for them I guess!
