JoJo Stardust Crusade (aeroplane ep): I hate how Jotaro treats his mum and I hate how she coddles him despite it. I'm up to the aeroplane ep and found it to be the best use of Stand so far. Couldn't believe it when Walk Like an Egyptian opening kicked in  A bit on the nose, as they say, but it still made me chuckle.

I'm glad they're finally out of Japan as all those humongous bodies being in the tiny, traditional Japanese house made them look larger than they already are. I also don't like how thick some of the outlines on the characters are... did the art change a bit for series 2, or am I imagining it?

Just a heads up what you're watching is part 3. Netflix are putting part 1 and 2 together for whatever reason.

Netflix deleted a tweet confirming One Piece was going to be in the USA version. Really hoping UK gets it too and that it's the original version in Japanese with English subtitles instead of the western edit (removal of blood and smoker's cigar replaced with a lollipop).

You're thinking of the old 4Kids dub.

Funimation re-did it from scratch with zero censorship and a new voice cast and do subbed simul-cast on their streaming service of the newest episodes. If Netflix get One Piece it will be the Funimation dual-audio version.

Ta for the heads up. Will edit previous posts.

So I'm guessing that means Netflix has 4 seasons of the show? (Series 1 = 1+2 and series 2 = 3+4 ?)

I haven't looked at Netflix's offering, but I assume Series 1 is Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency (Jonathan and Joseph, respectively), and Series 2 is just Stardust Crusaders (Jotaro), which had two seasons.

To answer your previous question, yes, the artstyle does change a bit in Stardust, to reflect the improvement in the author's original art. You'll definitely see the difference come Part 4.

Cheers for the seasons clarification.

"Improvement" is debatable as I preferred the less stylized beefcake look. But it's acceptable. Just a minor gripe.

Phantom Blood - Part 1 - Jonathan
Battle Tendency - Part 2 - Joseph
Stardust Crusaders - Part 3 - Jotaro/Joseph
Diamond is Unbreakable - Part 4 - Josuke

Fair enough, it's not for everyone. I suppose it must feel like a drastic change if you haven't read the manga, because the anime gets its artstyle from each Part's 'Final' look, if you like.
If you look at how the art progresses throughout the series, though, it's much easier to see how they got from Jonathan to Jotaro:

The style might be subjective, but it's hard to deny that his actual artistic ability has dramatically improved.

Holy strawberry floating gooseberry fool. Shounen Jump just announced that Bleach will be getting its final arc animated after years of nothing and the spinoff one shot Burn The Witch will begin serialisation in the summer with an anime of its own to follow.

Never thought I'd see the day... God damn I hope Kubo can maintain his health this time around.

Also Kishimoto's new series, Samurai 8, has been cancelled.

I'm not surprised Samurai 8 was cancelled, sales were pretty bad from the outset and the last few chapters have really rushed the endgame. It was the worst aspects of Naruto condensed into ~40 chapters.

I never gave Samurai 8 a try but every impression I heard about it was negative. The first volume only just got an English release and now I'm doubtful they'll bother translating/releasing the rest of it.

It's certainly not the worst thing in Jump but I'm always disappointed after reading a chapter. I feel Kishimoto would have been better off expanding upon the Samurai introduced in Naruto because the world building and power scaling in Samurai 8 is just complete pants... we had planet-buster attacks within 10-15 chapters, actual videogame powerups as training and now Godlike beings passing the torch.

It really is like you stripped Naruto of any charm and condensed the series into 40 chapters and 3 or 4 battles.

JoJo Stardust Crusaders (ep 7?): So up to this point I've seen smoking and ultra violence being censored by selective darkening of the screen. But underage character being portrayed sexily in a shower? Nope. Said underage character's arse being clearly in shot multiple times? Nope. Being leered at? Nope. And I thought they wouldn't get worse than naming a black kid Smokey :dread: AND WHAT THE strawberry float KIND OF NAME IS AVDOL ANYWAY?! Why Wouldn't they just name him Abdul FFS!!

Other than that: I really enjoyed the fight with the sea stand and ape. Stands are growing on me.

I still think the outline work on some of the characters/in certain scenes is a bit much, but that's a really interesting and cool way of depicting his work in the anime. I actually love it. Very clever.

Ha, get used to that. The original intent is definitely Abdul, after Paula Abdul, if that makes you feel any better. A combination of quirks in katakana pronunciation and the translator's desire to not get sued is what lead to Avdol.

Yeah, Stands are the best thing to happen to JoJo. They give the series a bit more of an identity and they can just dial it up to 11 whenever Araki wants it. While Hamon could do dumb bullshit like gluing leaves together to make a glider in later chapters like part 8 you get a stand that weaponises the concept of money and dumb gooseberry fool like that. It's great.

I'm still kind of torn between Stands and Hamon really.
I at least wish Hamon was still a thing, but it made a few brief appearances in Part 3 and was then totally absent from Part 4.
No idea if it ever comes back later.
