Does anyone remember Memories? The anthology film of three short stories. There's one directed by Otomo called Canon Fodder which I Think was silent and was also Great, it has such a unique vibe and style and I've often thought about it since.

Memories is indeed brilliant but I don't think Cannon Fodder was silent.

Its a while since I saw it through, so I could be wrong.

My one gripe with One Piece, but not just One Piece; I find this an issue with Rurouni Kenshin manga as well (and I suspect other action scenes I will read in future), I sometimes I cannot for the life of me decipher what is going on in a action scene.

I checked, I was wrong :(

Still great and short and focused though. But with talking.

Child Emperor vs Phoenix Man in One Punch Man is now one of my favourite manga fights ever.

Starting with One Piece may not have been the best idea :slol: It's great fun to read, but it's taken over and I wish I could breakaway from it to read something else.

Once you get to the Arlong Park arc you're absolutely hooked. 8-)

Also the anime is well worth watching as the pacing on the earlier episodes makes it so much more enjoyable to watch. You've got a long way to go before becoming Manga Only makes sense.

Also the music used in the walk to Arlong Park. :datass:

Sailed past that long ago now :toot: And was hooked long before it :P But yeah, that was a great chapter. We're now at Little Garden :toot:

Fully plan to check the anime out. And some of the games.

Isn't One Piece also one of the longest running anime with the lowest percentage of filler content?

Edit - Out of all the episodes One Piece is only 11% filler content in the anime - https://www.animefillerlist.com/shows/one-piece

By comparison the Naruto anime is 41% filler and Bleach is 45%

The filler I've experienced so far has been shockingly inoffensive, too.

Naruto and Bleach filler is...

*shudder*

Filler literally killed the Bleach anime for over 8 years.

Whilst some of the One Piece self contained filler story is quite enjoyable unlike the absolute garbage filler that was Naruto and Bleach, it doesn't reveal the full extent of the issue.

The anime rarely does actual filler but it has for many many years done horrible pacing where 1 manga chapter is stretched to fill an entire episode. It's painfully slow and in some cases it has the impact of making one-sided fights look more evenly matched which ruins the impact of them.

The music and animation and even Arlong's laugh really adds to this scene:

I must admit when watching some anime fights I feel they're way too stretched out - the early fights especially.

In One Piece specifically? I think the earlier story arcs are fine with overall story pace and length of the fights but it really slows down many hundreds of episodes later with 2 particular fights causing me to go Manga Only. I'm hopeful at some stage One Piece will get the Full metal alchemist Brotherhood treatment with a beautiful 4k version with perfect pacing. It's by far and away the most successful manga and anime in Japan but the anime is just a huge cash cow for them.

At the very least they need to copy Attack on Titan and My Hero Academia and basically stop doing weekly episodes and copy the American season length of 20-24 episodes per year which would drastically improve future episodes.

The problem is, an 18 page manga chapter doesn't equate to 22 minutes of anime any way you slice it, but both still have to come out weekly, come hell or high water.

If there's a lot of exposition you can pad it out a lot easier, but when a chapter is 18 pages of a single fight, the whole thing must equate to what, two, three minutes of footage? You've got to fill the rest somehow, otherwise you'll catch up to the manga in no time, and then you're really strawberry floated.

As David said, 24 episode seasons is the best way to do it, no question.

I think Alcafus reaches new lows in terms of how stupid a main character in a harem anime could be.

https://mangadex.org/title/29908/alcafus

Only 13 chapters long so far, nice art, interesting Arabian Isekai setting, but WTF man the MC makes Yuki Rito from ToLove Ru look like a total Chad!

After defeating some villain that was turning people to stone they literally just tell him "hey stop doing that" even though he doesn't show any remorse whatsoever!
