I'm worried that I'm falling down a rabbit hole here

Was that Shredder's voice half way through?

That's some impressively bad dubbing.

I wish my car was that cool.

Also found two DVDs in my library over the weekend that I have utterly no memory of ever owning.

A complete series DVD of Xenosaga the Animation, and a complete collection of "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya". I have absolutely no idea how, when or where I obtained them.

One Piece (Chapter 388/Island with hole in it/Door guy encounter): When did Luffy get so strong?! Okay, so he learns how to use Shave from seeing it so often, but when did he develop Gear 2? Kind of takes the sense of danger out of it if he can just power up like that.

There's downsides to that though so it's not like Super Saiyan where it's basically just better in every way.

Never mind. I see what you mean; there are downsides to his ability. Yeah, I got that. My point was his abilities improving like that and without explanation - not including picking up Shave - just comes off like... cheating by the writer. He mentions that the encounter where he got frozen made him realise things, but again there's not enough of a explanation. I'll read it again to see if I missed anything.

I have a Patlabor DVD I have no recollection of buying/acquiring.

I think Patlabor on VHS was the very first bit of anime I ever owned.

982 chapters read - I am now up to date with One Piece.

Yeah - it's strawberry floating brilliant. The world building has always been sold as the most impressive thing and it really is. How deep the whole world feels and character returns from hundreds of issues prior is brilliant. Oda is doing a really great impression that he has this all planned out and that surely can't be true over 20 years in the making. So many highlights and great character moments throughout. I'm a little gutted that I will now be awaiting chapters. (Btw: I know that is a ridiculous thing to say to anyone who might have been keeping up with the weekly for the last 10 years etc).

If I catch up, I won't be reading it weekly. 20 something pages of One Piece a week?! I would never be able to manage that! I'll move on to something else and let another backlog of chapters build up.

Going back to this, I've just seen the dubbed version on the DVD and it's a completely different dub to the one I have on VHS. And the VHS voice cast is definitely way better in my opinion.

Can't seem to find any YouTube clips from the original dub though, just the new one.

One Piece (when they're fighting for the keys): Chopper after downing a 3rd of his power up things  That first shot of him was legit :dread:

EDIT: Nose King to the rescue :toot:

Really enjoying the Conan anime on Netflix. I think something may have happened to him to make him a youngster or something, but the crime solving stuff is pretty good, even if the rest of it leaves you a little lost.

edit2: 436: Reason why they don't have a picture of Sanji  Truly mysterious!
