What's everyone's thoughts on haki? I picked up One Piece volume 70 after my girlfriend started reading the series from the beginning, and whilst I've been enjoying the story, I feel haki makes devil fruits largely redundant, and the fights don't have the creative solutions seen in the past when characters couldn't use haki to break through funky abilities.

Agree with the latter. Sort of. Luffy just caught Caesar Clown thanks to haki. No inventiveness in it at all. He just grabbed him. But I don't think it makes devil fruit pointless as haki isn't what gives them the weird powers. That stuff can be very inventive, like Trafalgar Law's powers. Now if Luffy was just able to beat him because haki then yeah, that's gooseberry fool. But leading up to it it'd still be entertaining to see how Law uses his abilities to strawberry float with people. I think a good mix of devil fruit powers, ingenuity and haki would be the best way forward.

One Piece 690: Law :bad mofo:

Where the hell is Franky at?! I remember him saying he had to go back to the Sunny or something, but then you don't see anything of him!

Oh yeah, Punk Hazard arc improved greatly as it went along. I still wasn't a fan of all the snow – it really did make it a pain to figure out what I was meant to be looking at.

Finished Zeta. HOLY strawberry float THAT ENDING WAS AMAZING. However as with my previous post pretty much all the characters I liked died in the final battle minus a few. I really am cursed.

Finally started on s3 of Haikyuu!! This tension of wondering who wins is killing me already, so I may well end up reading the plot before I get to the final episode.

My god that last two chapters of Chainsaw Man have been the most ridiculous and funny chapters I've read in a long time.

I heard about that elsewhere. Probably in one of Viz's emails. *adds*

Chainsaw Man is great. Really compelling stuff that I genuinely don't know where it'll end up.

Is the Battle Angel Alita manga as good as it looks?

Don't actually own any manga but I'm considering getting the collection as the film got me really interested in the story.

Looking at some scans it doesn't seem particularly tropey either (at least in a modern anime sense) which is a plus

If you've enjoyed the movie and scans you've read I'd say go for it. There is a lot to read with the spinoffs and sequel series and some of the art is downright beautiful and amazing considering the amount of detail shown in some panels.

There are some issues with pacing here and there in the first few volumes but once it finds its groove it's hard to put down. Alita herself gets far more character development than most other protagonists in similar series though I suppose that's a given with how long it's been around.

After the original series ended the author occasionally released short stories based in the same universe. They were released as their own volume called Battle Angel Alita: Holy Night & Other Stories.

The main series itself continued after a break of a few years with Battle Angel Alita: Last Order and then Battle Angel Alita: Mars Chronicle is the currently ongoing final series.

Okay, guess I'll just go with the main series for the moment.

Sounds like last order isn't as good from some of the reviews I read
