I'm finally in the 990s of One Piece  What the hell am I going to do when I catch up?!

My only gripe about this arc is that the whole "Gosh! Aren't we Japanese proxies ever so noble?!" thing was laid on a little too thickly.

I'm up to the bit just before Whole Cake Island now. The gangs split up and I'm really really enjoying it.

Only trouble is Volume 83 I'm up to is scanned out of order it feels like and I'm not sure how to read it

I bought the first omnibus with birthday money, and then subbed to SJOnline a while after that. So it's roughly taken me 1 year to catch up.

Another person to suffer alongside me. :D

The One Piece subreddit links to the latest chapter usually on a Thursday morning despite the official release being on Sunday afternoon. Worth reading as sometimes the official translations favour a more literal translation that doesn't quite fit as nicely as a more appropriate fit might do. And the reverse can be the case too so I just read both.

:x

Does anyone ever read a few pages of One Piece and feel the need for a breather because there's so much going on?

Will definitely check the subreddit out. Ta.

Looks like Blue Period is getting an anime this year and I'm incredibly excited this wonderful series will be seen by more people.

I think the recent few arcs have had the issue of the battles being too large in scale with too much going on simultaneously, it does look like things will be more focused now at least. Very few manga get the balance right and I can think of more examples of a large battle or war sucking the life out of a series than actually being entertaining.

I missed certain characters when they were missing in said recent arcs. However, after seeing what happens when everyone - and then some - is involved, I am far more understanding of that creative choice.

PSA: Studio Ghibli has an official Twitter account: @JP_GHIBLI (Twitter machine translation seems to have come on leaps and bounds.)

Demon Slayer (c66): says a lot about how good the writing is when you feel for a character being killed off even though they were just introduced, that or it points to how much of a huge sap I am

Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku is getting an anime. With this, Chainsaw Man and Blue Period I now have multiple anime series to actually look forward to for a change.

The author can even make you give a damn about some of the demons who get killed despite doing terrible things after being turned. The next arc for you is easily my favourite in the series.

Very true about feeling sympathy for demons due to author shedding light on who they once were and what they went through.

Caught up to One Piece during Water Seven back in the day, and sometimes it was pure torture getting through the longer arcs such as Dressrosa on a weekly schedule. Re-reading the arcs through the volume releases really helped change my perspective on some of those arcs, that's just the way One Piece is, I guess. The Wano act structure has been great for keeping things from getting too out of hand though.

What's your favourite arc, Saint Of Killers, now that you're up to date? I still think Water Seven is the peak, but that was when I caught up, so maybe that was always going to be the case.

I enjoyed them all so much that there's barely any room for cigarette paper between all the sagas and arcs. I guess that if I had to pick a single solitary arc above all others, I'd have to flip a coin between Arabasta and Marineford. But I'd have to read... the whole lot again... to be sure... :o :toot: But maybe I'll catch up with a few other series first!

I'm joining in here despite not being up to date (up to just before Whole Cake, Volume 83)

My favourite arcs by far have been Water7/Enies Lobby and Impel Down/Marineford. Both of those were absolutely incredible at every single step of the way but I really, really loved Dresrossa as well. Infact there's not a single act so far I haven't thoughroughly enjoyed.

Dressrosa is an excellent arc. Fishman Island is the weakest post time skip and for pre time skip it would be Sky Island.

I'll need to re-read the latest arc once it's completed as it's been going on for years now.

Same. I have gripes about a lot of them :slol: but overall I've loved everything I've read. I mean if I hadn't, then I wouldn't have asked for this for my birthday...

Got this Luffy for Christmas, watches over me as I work. I'm surprised how much I've fallen back into One Piece thanks to lockdown last year. I have a few issues post time skip, such as caricature Straw Hats, fanservice, and never really being all that into haki, but I still enjoy the story a great deal.

When I moved flats recently I also found a bunch of One Piece figures from various years. The Luffy and Zoro ones are pretty crusty, a friend found them in a market whilst on holiday back in 2007.
