It might just be me... but does anyone else think Ricky Gervais ruins the Ricky Gervais Podcast?

His laughter makes it funnier. Although in the more recent podcasts, he's been far more annoying.

Karl is the real star of the show, although Ricky is good for getting Karl to speak about matters of amusement.

I think he plays an important role as the 'straight man' in the trio, along with Steve, much as he did in Extras with his agent. To just listen to Karl Pilkinton for 60 mins on his own would actually get pretty boring.

I like Gervais. I find him to be rather intelligent actually, which is kind of refreshing.

Here here!

And the fact I agree and am interested in the same things as him 99% of the time helps.

Ricky Gervais - he's good in his series. But in stand-up, he's pretty bad.

It seems to me Gervais throws in long words and philosophical theories not cos they're pertinent to the discussion, but because he wants you to know how intelligent he is, therefore conversely proving he's actually a rather sizeable twat. Why the strawberry float is he always going on about how he's an atheist, does he think it makes him sound more sophisticated? It cracked me up when Jonathan Ross interviewed him a while ago and Gervais had asked Ross to ask Tom Cruise if he'd appear in Extras. Ross told Gervais Cruise had never seen the office, though he was a big fan of Gervais' earlier work on the 11 o' clock show - surely a staggeringly obvious gag to anyone who knows anything about comedy - and Gervais took him at his word!

If Gervais was really intelligent, he'd make sure his retorts to Karl's genuinely humorous comments were actually funny. Not really sure what Gervais' input on what Karl says is, guess he must have some, and I love the podcast for Karl's deadpan comments, but to me, gervais himself comes across as a right twat. Hate his laugh too.

Really? I think they're some of the best around, especially Politics, although Fame is by far the weakest.

Saw the short teasers on Sky and just thought it was about the Ricky Gervais show.

Going to have to watch this. Karl Pilkington

I just fear that it's going to be scripted and him playing up to how people think he should be. I hope that's not the case.

He just doesn't seem comfortable on the telly at all. Podcasts he is just brilliant.

Never heard of him before.

Seems like a bit of a twat from what I've just seen and read though.

I'm sure it'll still be quite funny but the above was always going to be the case.

Looks funnier than most of the drivel they beam into my living room most evenings.

Obviously this is quite old now but this is exactly my opinion of Gervais. He seems utterly desperate to prove how "clever" he is but comes off looking like a twat. He can be a good writer (although the only thing he's done I've liked aside from the Office is the podcast) but in terms of actual intelligence he appears to be decided average.

Did you know this was bumped exactly 2 years after the last post

Anyways, I love Ricky, Steve and Karl. Pretty much listen to their radio shows etc. on a loop, so I'm looking forward to this.
