Does Brutal Doom have different map designs? I hear it mentioned a lot, but know nothing about it beyond many people singing its praises.

Civilisation 6.

The first Civ game I've played, I gave it about 10 hours but just don't think it's for me. The level of micro management makes it feel like a second job sometimes.

I haven't played Red Dead Redemption 2 for over a week now. Could it be about to join the list of games I've given up on?

I would like to see the story play out but I've no inclination to actually play the damn thing.

It has its own level pack which varies in quality. It doesn't make any map design changes to any other wads you play it with, just textures, ambient effects etc.

Control

Getting to a another boss fight with an attack that kills you in 2 hits is enough for me. You can' get away with difficult fights if the combat is good enough but when it's so clunky and unrefined I just can't bring myself to keep going back, they need a better system of getting health. I would normally find a way to get through but add the shitty Dark Souls-esq save point system into the mix and that's me done.

A very cool setting and an interesting if poorly told story but Remedy really struggle with the actual game bit.

I also almost gave up on Control near the end when it started having multiple tough battles in a row with no way to save or any checkpoints until you'd completed them all, which meant dying sent you back to the start.

That is so weird - I gave up on this last night as well, for literally word for word this post.

Fallout 1. It's one of those classics I've started a couple of times but never finished and I've just given up again. I was quite far into it but unfortunately it crashes a bit too often on my machine and the crashing got to the point where enough was enough and I had to give up as it was just frustrating. :(

Seemed to be a problem with saving too often. But then I'm not going to play for hours without saving when it crashes so often, am I?

Played a few hours of Doom 3 and this game is total ass. Combat sucks and it's really samey/repetitive.

It's way too dark as well, hate games that have excessive amounts of darkness. You can do scary and still allow the player to see what they are doing.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

They added way too many abilities and gooseberry fool you have to keep track of - different grenades, abilities and lots of other stuff you have to remember what they are and switch to/use as they balance this by throwing even more dudes at you than before. Too much for me to keep track of leading to lots of dying and having to redo huge firefights over and over. I really can't be arsed with this, and if this is the direction the futuristic games go I'll knock this series on the head until I can maybe pick up the newer WWII game for a bargain price or something.

I started playing MGS 4 after not playing it since finishing it when it first came out today.

Gave up after 10 minutes, I don’t know why I just couldn’t be bothered. I remember when it came out I was so hyped, I can go back to the HD collection no problem, play MGS V no problem but playing this just seemed old and boring. I don’t know why

I had the exact same experience the other day! I started it up, got to the first cutscene with all the TV channels and thought, "Oh yeah..." :slol:

The live action TV channels are amazing though. One of my favourite parts probably!

I love the first two chapters for the various approaches you can take with the rebels and the affect you can have on the way the battles go.

MGS4 had the best online too :(

I’ve realised looking at this thread that I’ve given up MSG5 after 10 hours or so.

Fortnite was the last game I gave up on. I sucked at it, got frustrated, and just dumped it. I don't know how people even play that game.

Dirt 4 - PC

This was going ok-ish until I thought i'd try some of the offroad races. I bought a little buggy thing for the first race, could see nothing with all the dust being kicked up, it wanted to spin out at every given opportunity and I was getting berated by this prick in the pitlane over the radio about losing positions and sounding completely disinterested when I of course came dead last. In the process of not seeing where i was going and this thing's atrocious handling I ended up rolling/crashing, all of which had to be paid for as repairs between rounds. After coming dead last and seeing I ended up losing money thanks to repairs and no prize money and having shelled out on this awful little kart thing to enter, as well as failed to meet sponsor goals and lowered my rep with them too (presumably that lowers future rewards until you do better) - so I may as well not have bothered in the first place and was significantly worse off as a result.

Racing games are weird, I used to absolutely love them but now if I'm doing well on a lower difficulty I feel like I'm being patronised but get obliterated on higher difficulties and completely lose all enthusiasm to carry on, all the while thinking I could be doing something more "worthwhile".

Is this the one where the main character was Troy Baker as Troy Baker, and Kevin Spacey was the villain? That's literally the only thing I remember about that game. Weirdly I found it more forgettable than Ghosts which was a worse game.

Infinite Warfare was much better and I still rank it as the best campaign in the entire series and one of the best FPS campaigns this gen.

Ok, I'll keep an eye out as steam keys for that are normally extremely cheap for some reason.

EDIT: Chucking Doom 2016 and Hitman 2 2018 on the nope pile, I think I don't like videogames anymore. In the case of the former I was bored by the second level and in the case of the latter I kept messing up the training scenario of the first game's content and just completely checked out, if the rest of the game is larger and more complex sandboxes than a single area on a "boat" then it does not bode well for the future.

Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare

I really wanted to like this, but strawberry floating hell, it pisses me off so much. I can't do a damn thing without being killed by wild animals. Leaving a town? Here's a strawberry floating cougar out of nowhere to take me down the second I step out of the town's perimeter. Want to fight back? strawberry float you, here's a wild boar to team up with the cougar and kill you.

Finally found a good horse, i.e. one that's alive and controls normally? strawberry float you, here's a bear to kill it, can't have you getting around with any sort of speed or in a controllable manner. Here, you can have this shitty dead horse instead that controls like it's got some kind of mental problem. What's that? You're actually making progress getting towards somewhere on the map? strawberry float you, here's another strawberry floating cougar to somehow kill the horse that's already dead. Oh and now you're dead too.

It's just insane. When you're inevitaby killed during a mission by another strawberry floating cougar, of course it starts you miles from where you were, so you have to trek to wherever you were, which again leaves you open to getting killed, and the cycle repeats. It was a decent idea and I wanted to be into it, but I can't handle this level of bullshit.
