On variety:

The first game had more seasonal variety for sure because that's how it's broken down, although the second still has snow in the opening sections around Jackson and the obvious climate change between Seattle and Santa Barbara. As for locations I think they are pretty comparable in different places even though 2 has more of those places within the one overall location of Seattle, and 2 is more varied in the mechanics of traversing environments with the open world section, horse riding, the boat and water in general. There is a lot of variety in Seattle itself as I say - Hillcrest is completely different to the subway which is different to the hospital or the sky bridge or the flooded areas - even forested areas. It's not really just one big Boston, which was a lot more uniform (which makes sense given the first game's structure). The island and Santa Barbara are obviously very different locations, and the flashbacks offer more variety too. There is a decent variety in weather and time of day too.

Or in other words, Seattle isn't comparable to a single location from the first game, because there is a lot of variety within Seattle, and the parts of the game outside of Seattle shouldn't be forgotten either.

Replayed most of the game up to Seattle Day 3, 3 times now, because my PS4 bricked itself losing all of my New Game+ progress. I don’t think my feelings are changing much on a replay but still enjoying it loads. Most of the difficulty is negated by the fact that Checkpointing doesn’t seem any harsher on harder difficulties so dying is no punishment at all which exacerbates the steady being over powered problem I have.

When I looked through the custom difficulty sliders it mentions frequency of mid-encounter checkpointing, you might be able to reduce that specifically? Even if there were no checkpoints at all though I don't think there are many particularly lengthy encounters though so it'll probably never be that punishing to die (until they patch in the iron man mode, which sounds way too far in the other direction for the length of game  )

Where's that. It's not in the difficulty menu?

I find it funny ND have gone this route though, difficulty in their games has always being janky as strawberry float. Uncharted 4 being the just the absolute peak of the gooseberry fool mountain. So for this they just gave up and handed control over to the user and it's still not very good.

Oh I didn't mention my final size. The folder ended up being just about 3GBs LOL. Prob would have hit 4 if I didn't have to force myself to stop using it too much near the end >,>

My minds still a blur. Still too early to say, but I think I prefer the first game as a more focused experience. But I only played that game once on release never touched it again. Part 2 seems better suited for replayability tho. There's so much I feel like I missed out on in terms of gameplay since I went mostly stealth.

Are you going to post some of your best ones up?

I stopped after leaving Jackson because I was messing too long on getting that perfect shot. God helps me when GOT unlocks on Friday.

GoT's photo mode might actually consume me, I'm kinda scared lol.

As with TLOU2, I'll need to sift through my folder and pick out ones I really like, but it's gonna take a while considering its sheer size. Are they any good sites that let you upload large folders of pics?

When I started New Game + "Custom" was an option. You might have to enable the accessibility options to see it? Not entirely sure.

(I don't think custom is meant as them giving up on balance but as an accessibilty feature. Can't argue against the choice being there!)

Uncharted suffers from bullet sponges a lot on the higher difficulties, I never had any issues with 4 on normal though.

I took a few on the first playthrough. Plan to take many more on this one. Just got to the open area in seattle. So great just to ride around on the horse. Enjoying the stunning views.

I just had a look at the resetera thread for the game (yes I know that was my first mistake), but some people seem to be saying the game is pushing a conservative agenda because (full game spoilers here) it portrays the farm life that Ellie and Dina try to have as an ideal life.

I'm completely dumbfounded. I'm not sure if I missed something in the conversation but that just seems like such a ridiculous take I can't believe people are actually discussing that.

To be clear, it's people on a Waypoint/Vice podcast that think that. Not shocked.

Ah thanks, that explains where it came from them. I'm interested to see how they got to such a conclusion but not interested enough to listen to a whole podcast

It was fun listening to them pick apart the game for six hours :datass:

What else did they say?

It's kind of infuriating listening to some podcasts that clearly haven't done their research before discussing the game.

Can't really comment on their argument but to counter the general point as posted it's not presented as the ideal life, it's just idyllic for Ellie (although she is not able to actually live it). It's presented that way - Ellie suggests it to Dina as what she wants when riding around Downtown. The peaceful, natural and isolated location contrasts against the rest of the game, and also works as a callback to the farmhouse in the first game where Ellie imagines living a "perfect" life before the outbreak. It's not presented as the ideal life for everyone - you can even directly read the letter from Jessie's parents hoping Ellie and Dina will return to Jackson and the community there. Jackson, the stadium and even the island all show different possible futures which could be lived - the introduction to Abby's half of the game in the stadium I think is very much meant for the player to go "oh wait they are actually rebuilding and have good lives here, they aren't just outlaws" and that's a very different environment to the farmhouse. Abby is as much the game's protagonist as Ellie and she is left chasing a different life also in wanting to rejoin the fireflies. I think you'd need more consistency in what is being pushed as the ideal life for people in general, and not just one character, to say the game has an agenda over it.
