I’m sure it’s more than just slapping together assets.

They need to spend time making it so that PS4 people have character's who are filthy urchins while PS5 players are glorious superpeople for a start.
Got to maintain the social hierarchy.

I have to admit I never get on with the factions mode, probably because I jumped in too late and everyone is godlike good at it.

If Factions 2 is a free update then I will give it a go. If I have to pay for it, I’ll just skip it.

The same goes for Uncharted 4’s MP and COD MW MP. I never had any fun on it at all.

The last MP I enjoyed was Borderlands 3 but that’s a co-op mode really. Now if they do a upgrade for Borderlands 3 for the new gen, I’ll jump in.

Downloaded that mobile wallpaper. It's pretty slick.

Factions was pretty easy to pick up and be ok at. I wish I had some footage of the games the GR team played in the tournament ND ran. Our group won at least 2 games out of the three or four we played, I think, and it wasn’t even our A squad so the standard wasn’t impossibly high. They did kind of make it overly obtuse with all the skills they added which strawberry floated the balance too. And cheating was/is rampant.

I think people expecting a free update are going to be disappointed and it’ll more than likely be a standalone release that you may be able to buy in game for 20 quid or something.

I don’t expect it to be a free update. What I mean is that I would be less likely to buy a MP only game.

I can't see it being free.
£20 seems about right and I think it'll be fairly popular but I agree with Herbi that they need to sort out the balancing of the skills and the cheating. The skill where you can respawn on top of team members in a mode where you have to defend a safe (you end up with a situation where attackers can respawn closer to the attacking objective than the defenders) has to be changed for a start.

Thoughts?

I agree with some of his points, but his general consensus seems to be that because you don't always want to do what the character is doing that makes the game bad.

Like he's completely ignoring the fact that if the game gave you the option to not kill certain characters Ellie or Abby's character development wouldn't make any sense.

At its heart it's a very black and white take on the game. Like because the game says 'violence is bad' and then encourages you to engage in violence it's hypocritical. I mean, if the game just let you play non lethally the narrative would fall apart.

Games like MGS3 or Deus Ex can get away with non lethal gameplay because their narratives aren't written around it.

Surely it's possible to feel good about something or enjoy it in the moment and then reflect on the horror of it afterwards? That's exactly what Shadow of the Colossus does which he holds up as some godlike game.

I just know I want to save big money at Menard's.

(my partner is from the Midwest and cracked up at that joke).

I only finished the game myself a couple of days ago so also have to mull on my thoughts a bit, but I generally agree with him that this was a slightly disappointing return to an almost perfect first game.

In retrospect I'd rather they had given us a story in the same universe with completely different characters,i think.

I'd still like to see how the rest of the world is coping.
That small part of the US can't be the only place where a cure is possible and there are labs that can create a cure or vaccine so the scope for further stories set in that setting are pretty limitless.

I would love it if The last of Us part 3 moved to other country, with a new cast. But then I doubt it will happen.

They could have island refuges set-up by the military where the virus hasn't infected so you could even change genre and have a city builder but with the constant fear of infection and the city being overrun.

I wouldn't be surprised if the third game is about contacting some outside nation and how that all plays out. I don't see what else they could do without retreading old ground

Finally got around to watching it. I agree with pretty much everything he says but the title of the video isn’t really what its about. He spends about 5 minutes talking about the gameplay. His real issue seems to be the story.

His main issue seems to be with how the game and story interact, I'd still consider that game design.

It bugs me how he also used "ludonarrative dissonance" incorrectly. There is no tonal conflict between the story and the gameplay, they play into each other.

The changes he is suggesting would in fact introduce ludonarrative dissonance because like I already said, playing non lethally as Ellie makes no sense to her character development.

It's just really funny going from listening to podcasts that pick apart every part of the game and dive really deeply into the character development and how it makes sense in partnership with the gameplay, to this.

"What! This character with an established backstory, goals, motivations and experiences did something I don't agree with!? Ludonrishnehdispnance"

The game is far too long, paced badly and the scavenging is tiresome but a lot of the criticisms in that video are just wrong and come from a place of wanting the game to be something it's not or has never tried to be.
