PostThe last time a TV show gave you goosebumps
by Hero of Canton » Thu Oct 30, 2008 8:11 am

I remember this getting me at the time, but second time round it seemed just as impactful.

I was channel-hopping the other day and spotted an old episode of Angel (well, obviously - it wasn't going to be a new one, was it?). Anyway, it was Season 5 Episode 18 - Origin.

***spoilers follow - if by chance you like Angel, haven't watched Season 5 but would like to, then please avoid the following***

aka The One Where Connor Comes Back. Anyway, it's a really interesting episode throughout, but it's the end that absolutely slays me. It's when Connor's walking off for the final time, saying he has to do what he must to protect his family. And then he says the line "I learned that from my father", and then you realise he knows, and Angel knows, and they look at each other for what must only be a couple of seconds of screen time, but it's just...it's just a brilliant, brilliant, spine-tingling moment.

Amazing telly.

Name the last time that a telly show really made the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. Please spoiler anything recent or involving major plot points.

I've been watching a lot of Weeds and Dexter at the moment.

Weeds made me laugh, a lot. But no goosebumps. Dexter's very, very entertaining, but not quite serious enough for goosebumps. My best goosebump moment would have to be...

24, Season 1 Episode 24
After killing the Drazens, Jack asks the coastguard for the body of his daughter that was found in the Marina that night, according to Nina. The coastguard calls round and tells Jack that no body has been found. The look on Jacks face, at that moment, when he realises Nina is the mole is priceless.

Which obviously results in the most moving section of any tv episode I've ever watched - Jack finding the body of his wife, strapped to a chair with two bullet holes in her stomach. Lifting her off and holding her, repeating "I'm so sorry".

Then the silent clock. Always, always gets me.

My last time would have to be 24 too, however not Season 1 but Season 3 Episode 24:

When the threat at the school from the virus being released is contained, Jack heads back to his car where he has a moment to think about the events of the day, and subsequently breaks down. I think it really showed a side to Jack that we hadn't seen before. The silent clock at the end of certain episodes is amazingly effective as well.

That's one of my favourite moments too. Although in episode 18, when...

He has to kill Chappelle. Good god.

Such a shame 24 has gone down the crapper since season 3. I'm really hoping that season 7 might be a sight return to form, the prequel movie's been getting some great reviews.

Buffy season 2 when she realises she has to leave aftersending Angel to the abyss, the music was superb and very very well done.

Angel, final series when everyone gathers in the last episode to take on wolfram and heart, only to find out that

Wes had died. :(

The last episode of Friends, I loved the show, and the music at the end as well as some of the moments in that episode really made me sad.

Fabian Delph is a banana split.

THAT FX shot of Adam getting out of the car as it blew up.

Wow. Someone give that FX team the Merlin gig, please.

That was crazy, it got drawn out for so long, I had convinced myself he wasn't going to die.

I've only watched the first three seasons, but after reading the plot outline for the fourth I'm not sure if I will continue. And I found Jack's daughter to be the most annoying character ever, so that doesn't help. x

Then it's not really spoiling anything by saying she's only in one or two episodes between seasons 4 and 6. And to be honest, only the first four episodes, plus I think, episode 21 and 24 are worth watching in season 4. Season 5 is entertaining and season 6 is best to give a complete miss.

My most recent one would have to be Battlestar season 4 episode 10.

When they finally find earth. The outpouring of emotion in the CIC is absolutely brilliant, i just had a stupid smile on my face for the whole scene. And then of course they actually go to the surface....

There have been some amazing moments in Mad Men. In season two when Betty tells Don to not come home and in season one where Don shuns his brother.

And of course the entirety of the presentation in the season one finale.

But hardly any of you know what I'm talking about, you bastards.

Battlestar galactica season 4 episode 10

The joyous way the various ships are all racing to the surface of Earth - they're practically doing loops! Love it. Also the first episode of season 4 when Tigh shoots Adama in the eye - I knew it was him having a fantasy but it still made me go, y'know, WTF!!

The final scene in the final episode of The Sopranos. I thought it was brilliant.

Gandalf, I have realised that me and you both share quite a lot in common when it comes to TV stuff, you have agreed with me on numerous occasions, its like you are the anti-chalkitdown. ;)

I have to admit that the final episode of Buffy had me in tears, as well as ''my lunch'' in scrubs.
