Is there any limit to sig sizes? I know you said no big sigs, but is it still fine to have images which are not gamertags?

Keep to the present GR limit for sigs. Some of the ones that people have had since the closure news have been a bit big. Also, no animated sigs please, people.

When we remember what the size limits are on GR, we'll probably add it to the rules.

400x100 sound ok to you? I could go smaller if that's a bit too big.

There's the option to turn off signatures, avatars and even images in posts in your user settings now. So if you find any of it obtrusive (say at work) you can turn it off. Still no reason to go overboard.

My suggestion is to allow piracy talk, if I'm reading the rules right then Sarge won't be allowed to upload TV shows to sites like megaupload and post the links on this site. If you're worried about being sued etc then create a message board that requires you to be a trusted member or something to view it where the links to content and how to use stuff can be explained freely and any fears of being sued are removed (even though such a risk is so minute as to really not need be a concern at all).

Can't really think of any other suggestions at the moment, everything else is fine from the brief time I've been using this site.

Because only trusted members can see the forum, by trusted I don't mean a high post count, but rather a degree of trust has been earnt, a subjective test. Maybe I should have said greatly minimised but that doesn't quite pack the same punch as the word removed. The risk is so low to begin with that its really not even worth worrying about is the basic point I was trying to make. And it's a fair point to make considering just how many people use the internet for illegal matters compared to the amount of people who actually get caught.

Fair enough, but as ever where you stand on an issue depends on where you sit. My guess is that there isn't a limited liability corporation behind this new board, so any liability that attaches to it for anything heads direct to the individuals concerned. If you were running the board, what upside to you is there at all in taking the risk of being sued - however minimal, I'll grant you that - compared to just forbidding the discussion and eliminating the risk entirely?

I must say you've done a great job! Feels more 'homey' than GR did. No bloody adverts for one thing.

Congrats!

Ah I didn't consider the possibility of unlimited liability. If that is the reason behind the decision then that's fine. I just thought the decision for no piracy rule to be used was done because GR had the same rule.

Its definitely a very opinionated issue, luckily for me, I don't have many moral absolutes, and I tend to make decisions based on a cost/benefit scale and with downloading the cost/benefit is very much in favour of downloading as the risk is so minor. However the risk for an individual person is obviously going to be different to a site that willfully allows for any and all (or even some) piracy discussion to take place.

Any chance of having a greater number of posts-per-page?

In following the calls of 'KEEP IT THE SAME' a lot of things like that were kept the same in the forum settings.

I'd personally like a few more posts per topic page too, not the NeoGAF definition of more but somewhere in between.

Any chance of having 'Users browsing this forum' back at the top of each folder?

You could always add the option in the UCP.

Traditionalists could stick to the default 14 posts-per-page and people like me who dislike having to click on 'next page' every few seconds could select 50 ppp.

But I guess things like this are still a bit of a work in progress.

...

And - because I don't think I have said it yet - major congratulations on setting up the site. I just hope the community can do it justice.

Love the new forum, and it looks much nicer than GR, but seems to maintain the look at the same time. Hard to explain. Big thumbs up though guys!

I thought I better make my first post on here, dedicated to thanking you guys for setting this up!

It's fast, and clean. As Borat famously said... 'I Like!'

Not sure if it's been mentioned in the thread (apologies for not wanting to read 4 pages of suggestions) but if possible, can there be a jump next to the topic title to take you to the last read post? It's invaluable for large threads, and will be especially useful for forum games, particularly AYAW?

:D

The forum does look ace by the way. Who needs Future?

I went back to GR earlier today and it feels completely archaic after posting on here.

Love the way the profile, user control panel etc have all been centralised.

Much better.
