Even the condition with Matt in this week's episode is alluded to in the flashback episode of season 1. The actor guy who was in 302 is shown on TV in a late season 1 episode, as well.

This has all been planned out very carefully.

The actor was in Season 1 where it was stated he had departed, then he was on a TV in Season 2 where it was revealed he had faked the departure.

I'm not sure it's planned out *that* carefully as the decision to have the actor return and be the one who delivered that monologue to Nora was only taken when breaking Season 3 (http://ew.com/tv/2017/04/24/the-leftovers-perfect-strangers/).

There were two really excellent pieces in the wake of the latest episode btw:

- A conversation between Lindelof and Matt Zoller Seitz (who partially inspired the episode) http://www.vulture.com/2017/05/leftovers-episode-inspired-by-matt-zoller-seitz.html

- A short GQ piece about how the episode came together http://www.gq.com/story/how-the-leftovers-pulled-off-its-best-episode-ever

Jesus christ, last night's episode. :dread: :( That was a devastating final scene between Laurie & Kevin.

That was an acting tour-de-force by Amy Brenneman. Possibly better than her season 2-centric episode. Was she really going to do what she did before calling her kids, though? That was a dick move.

3x06- Well that was brutal. Laurie :(
-Amy Brenneman was indeed exceptional though so it was a fitting send-off.
- Has an episode of television ever had spoilers in its opening title song?

3x07- Might be my favourite ep of the season. Outstanding.

- Title music! :datass:
-Was hoping Laurie was going to be the Veep but I guess she was more at peace with her death than everyone else there. Aside from Patty who killed herself to troll Kevin, the kids who starved to death and Chris Sunday who died by accident, every other named character in Purgatory was murdered.
-Tell her I love her too. Would have liked to seen more from Burton.

Season finale next week. No idea how they're going to end this but I hope there's a lot of sad piano.

That was amazing in every possible way. Holy shitballs. The return of the season 1 credits  And then Ann Dowd & Liv Tyler's names among the cast. You just knew it was gonna be a good 'un after that.

When the "hotel" ba-buuuuum music kicked in I think I got giddy.

In a way, I wish we never saw the flashforward of Nora or whatever that was back in 301 'cos we now know that they don't end up together, right? Unless they're pulling a fast one on us (which is VERY possible). I'm also glad they restrained from having Laurie show up in the other place. Their goodbye last week was so perfect, I didn't want them to ruin it. I presume we've seen the last of her, but I'm sure she'll be mentioned in the finale.

The sound effect of Kevin's schlong hitting that sensor  They had a fun time in the foley room for that I'd say. They've now had a joke about the size of his package in all three seasons.

I have absolutely no idea where the show is going for it's last hurrah but I have no doubt it's going to be riveting television and emotionally draining.

What's up with Regina King only having one single scene this whole season? :( That's probably the only disappointing thing about it. Seems odd to make her a regular and then have her film 5 minutes total all season. Jill & Tom only having cameo parts I can understand since their stories were pretty much told, although I hope they both turn up next week.

I didn't realise this earlier but the events of this episode are set before last week's episode. Laurie didn't go out on the boat until the next day but the guys at the table woke a few hours after she left the night before, which is when this episode is set.

That's probably it. There's an unknown period of time between between Senior drowning Kevin in the tub and Kevin waking up in the church but if Tommy and Jill are awake enough to call Laurie, it's probably at least afternoon Australia time when she goes scuba diving.

Youtube putting spoiler videos for the finale on my recommended videos list. :simper: Trying to watch the RedLetterMedia review of Wonder Woman and that pops up.

Oh strawberry float. Gotta avoid Youtube tonight, then. Watching this in an hour.

Have tissues handy just in case. :(

I watched the finale this morning. It wasn't quite what I was expecting, and it dragged a bit, but that final scene was perfect. I feel they got just the right balance of leaving some things to the viewer to decide and it should make for a good show to rewatch in a couple of years.

3x08- I liked it but felt the episode was slightly disappointing. The season 2 finale actually works better as a series finale than this.

Part of that is the ambiguity of how much of the episode actually happened or where it happened. After Nora's call to Laurie I was expecting a reveal that the flashforward was Nora hallucinating in the box or she'd switched places with her counterpart in another universe. If it was all real Laurie not killing herself robs her arc of an ending. She just wanted to go scuba-diving?

-Nora's revelation of where the departed went felt like it should have been an entire episode to itself.
- Grim note: If Nora was telling the truth, Laurie's foetus... :dread:

Regardless of my misgivings about that episode, The Leftovers was a fantastic show and I'll miss it a lot.

I must echo what you two have said. A very unexpected final episode but that very last scene was just perfect. The dance scene about halfway into the ep was fantastic, too. In a way I loved that it focused entirely on Kevin & Nora, but in a more selfish way I wish we had proper wrap-ups for all the other characters. It's a shame the final season was cut short as you definitely feel there was more story there to tell. Would have liked to have seen more of Jill & Tom this season, for example. Jill & Erika only had a single scene each all season which is a crying shame.

I think maybe she was going to go through with it until that phone call. That would make sense.

Still, all in all, an amazing show.

I liked Jill and Tommy but Regina King in particular got short-changed.

I read that was simply due to scheduling. They only had her for one day apparently.

Are we even sure Nora was telling the truth in the finale, btw? It looked awfully like she was about to yell stop when it cut away to the future. I presume the reason for the sudden cut was to make you doubt her story so it could go either way.

No it could go either way. Personally I think she was telling the truth.

I'm not so sure myself.

The more I think back on the finale, the more I like it.

So if Nora's story is true (and it's a pretty big if), then, in theory, the 2% who departed could use the machine to return to the other 98%? Be a pretty long queue, though.

This is why I don't really buy it.

Binge watched the whole series over the last week. Wasn't quite up to season 2 for me, but still great. The president episode was gloriously batshit crazy.

I think Nora went to the other place. If we'd had more episodes I imagine there would have been a couple set there.

I'm taking it there's nothing biblical about any of it, a 'simple' case of a parallel world opening up, nothing more than that. Also if you think of it that way, miracle is the only place in the USA where every single person departed in the other world.

Only real question I wanted answered was how the strawberry float was Kevin able to not die and go to that place?
