How close are they to finishing the book's story? I'll be interested in the show if they do more than the book

The book's main story is now finished. Apparently they missed out some side story's so I guess they could go into Season 2 if appropriate.

It is the penultimate episode, with nothing really built for a finale, so they go and pull a flashback episode on us. No idea what is going to happen as finale, but I cannot help but think it has been a missed opportunity, well lets see if they can pull it out the bag next week else I will not be picking this up again next season

1x09

I disagree, I personally really appreciated seeing who these characters were before the disappearances. The sense of tension which built up as the episode progressed knowing that the world was about to change was very well done.

1x10- I really loved that finale, so much so I wouldn't have minded if that had been the last episode of the show.

My fault was it was the penultimate episode, I would have liked it if not for that fact

I am loving this. At Sky pace so just watched episode 9 this week. It skirted dangerously close to being overly mysterious earlier on but it is really starting to come together into quite a fascinating world/story. More people should watch this.

Regina King Joins ‘Leftovers’ As Regular -

Southland alumna Regina King has joined the upcoming second season of HBO drama series The Leftovers as a new regular opposite Justin Theroux and Amy Brenneman. She will play one of the major new roles on the spiritual post-Rapture drama, which is undergoing a creative revamp heading into Season 2, moving the setting from Mapleton, New York to a Texas town. King will play Erika Murphy, a doctor who runs the local urgent care in the town. She is married with two kids.

Season 2 plot, SPOILERS -

After last season’s elaborate Memorial Day initiative by the Guilty Remnant plunged Mapleton into chaos, season two of The Leftovers finds many searching for a fresh start. Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux) has retired from his post as chief of police of Mapleton and is moving his new family to Texas. With him is Nora Durst (Carrie Coon), who’s discovered new purpose in caring for the baby she found on Kevin’s doorstep and welcomes leaving behind Mapleton and the incredible tragedy she suffered there. Equally eager to leave the town she grew up in and the friends she made there is Kevin’s daughter, Jill (Margaret Qualley).

Upon their arrival in Jarden, Texas, the newly formed Garvey family meet their neighbors, the Murphys: John (Kevin Carroll) and Erika (Regina King) and their teenage twins, Evie (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Michael (Jovan Adepo). Attracted to this special town and hoping for miracles for his whole family, Matt Jamison (Christopher Eccleston) has moved with his wife, Mary (Janel Moloney), who still suffers from consequences of the terrible car accident on October 14.

Meanwhile, Kevin’s ex-wife, Laurie Garvey (Amy Brenneman), has left the Guilty Remnant and reunited with her son, Tom (Chris Zylka), who may have finally discovered a cause to help replace the pain in his heart. And while Meg (Liv Tyler) remains in the Guilty Remnant, it may not be the same cult she originally joined.

PostRe: The Leftovers - Begin Again, Season 2 starts Sunday in the US & Monday in the UK

Back tonight in the US and on Monday on Sky Atlantic, some reviews of season 2 -

It's HBO's best drama--and thus must-see TV.

'The Leftovers' is still TV's best drama as season 2 begins

More than ever, though, it might be for those who loved "Lost" for the questions it asked, not those it answered.

If the first season of The Leftovers sometimes felt insular, the second premiere instantly proves that the show is actually boundless.

The Leftovers appears no more interested than before in answering big questions about the Departure. But it goes nowhere beautifully.

The new season of The Leftovers is an exhilarating experience in trying to understand that certain fundamental things cannot be understood.

:slol: :slol: :slol: What the hell is going on? Loved it. Opening with prehistoric earthquake, birds in boxes, cracks in road covered up by boxes, goats being sacrificed in diners, naked running girls, hobos in towers (Stylites). Captain fireman was creepy and very good. Not sure what happened in the end, departure or the girls went down the crack in the lake. I think the daughter was one of the running naked girls though.

Pretty much exactly what I expected last night. Looking forward to weekly installments, although they have completely ruined what used to be excellent opening credits!!
